We are excited to share that in collaboration with Prognos AG, VTT, and Maastricht University, we have successfully completed the Phase 2 Evaluation Support Study on Horizon Europe's contribution to a Resilient Europe. This comprehensive study serves as an input into the interim evaluation of Horizon Europe, covering the period from 2021 to 2023. ✅ Key findings from the study reveal that all three Clusters are well-aligned with EU priorities. Cluster 1 has been particularly adaptable, addressing critical health challenges like infectious diseases and spearheading significant research efforts on COVID-19 and cancer. Cluster 2 has shown potential in harmonizing technological advancements with the protection of fundamental rights and civil liberties. Meanwhile, Cluster 3 is playing a pivotal role in enhancing the EU's cybersecurity framework and contributing to broader security objectives. 📊 The study also notes improvements in the administrative efficiency of Horizon Europe, with higher project success rates and better funding allocation compared to Horizon 2020. These findings provide valuable evidence to guide future adjustments and reorientations of the programme. 📈 #PPMIprojects

📢 This September we launch the EU-LIFE #BetterTogether Sessions! In this series of online seminars for employees of EU-LIFE institutes, experts from our community will delve into topics that are relevant from a #ResearchPolicy or institutional point of view, with plenty of room for questions and open discussion. The first session will be devoted to #ResearchSecurity ⬇ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 Growing geopolitical tensions have put stress on the scientific values of #openness, #collaboration and #AcademicFreedom. Worldwide, researchers are more confronted with the topic of research security and in Europe, policies are being introduced for higher education and research performing organizations to assess the risk for malign interference. Although this may sound unsettling, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. These new policies will have an impact on the way research is performed, but to what extent? Should we be concerned or will the impact on our day-to-day science and collaborations be relatively mild? In this talk, Marta Agostinho & Iris Uribesalgo, PhD will discuss the current state of the research security debate from a policy perspective and Henri Van Luenen will share the experiences of the The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). ℹ If you are a member of staff of a EU-LIFE institute and are interested in this topic, 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟲 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿!! Postdoctoral NIH Funded Research Fellow, University of Rochester, AEP 2024 Research Team-U.S. Dept. Of Homeland Security, Global Goals Ambassador SDG-17, UNA-USA; Fellow, New York Academy of Medicine.
The Global Transdisciplinarity Conference focuses on coping with the current poly crisis, of which climate change, refugee crises, the Corona pandemic, and recent wars in Ukraine and the Middle East are symptomatic. As a whole it has threatening implications for social peace, ecological equilibrium, the world economy, health and the well-being of all lifeforms. The complexity of these threats and the hardly predictable mutual spill-over effects require new approaches. I am excited to present a synopsis of my doctoral research findings on collective solutions to end digital violence (on the hybrid platform) under Track 1 alongside Dr.h.c.Brunhilde Schram MAS, MBA, my G100: Mission Million SDG Global Chair, who will be sharing her presentation in-person at the 2nd Global Transdisciplinarity Conference held in Cappadocia University, Turkey. I look forward to representing both United Nations Association of the United States of America and G100: Mission Million at this conference! As a woman who has conducted a global research on digital violence at the New York Medical College (in collaboration with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and preparing to embark on my new research venture with the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, I bear the torch to continue shining a light on digital integrity, digital safety and addressing all forms of digital violence, especially its contributing subtle socio-economic determinants. Check out some additional information about the 2nd Global Transdisciplinarity Conference: https://lnkd.in/eq-9z9hf Special thanks to the conference-organizers and quick responses to abstract submissions: Dr. Marisa Mühlböck

Washington, D.C. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Subcommittee on Health Chair Brett Guthrie (R-KY), and Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chair Morgan Griffith (R-VA), on behalf of the Health and Oversight Subcommittee Republicans, wrote to National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Monica Bertagnolli. In the letter, the Chairs ask the NIH to confirm by May 14, 2024, whether the agency has complied with White House guidance to stop funding projects led by researchers and entities in Russia. "However, the Data Abyss tracker for the OSTP Russia guidance on federal funding agencies indicates that, as of April 5, 2024, the NIH has potentially 240 instances of problematic research collaborations since June 2022 that do not comply with the guidance." We cannot predict the future, but we can shape it! Mathematical modelling and strategic foresight are two critical concepts for building robust public health preparedness, response, and resilient health systems. I gained a lot from this practical training! Thanks #ECDC, #AfricaCDC
Mathematical modelling and strategic foresight analysis at ECDC Summer School for 53 participants from EU/EEA, Western Balkans and Türkiye as well as Africa CDC and #MediPIET nominees, 22 – 24 May, at ECDC. The program focused on leveraging mathematical modelling and strategic foresight analysis to strengthen public health resilience. It was tailored for those involved in planning interventions and resource allocation, and targeted both specialists and generalists keen on navigating the complexities of anticipatory modelling and strategic foresight. With a focus on both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, the delegates got the chance to familiarise themselves with key components and concepts of infectious disease transmission and control, enabling them to analyse and interpret modelling outputs effectively and thereby enhancing their ability to anticipate and respond to emerging public health challenges proactively. Thank you for those who actively participated! Gerjon Ikink, Oana Mereuta-Buzatu, Bastian Prasse, Eva Bons, Esther Kukielka Zunzunegui - PhD, DVM, MSc, Amelie Plymoth, Urszula Bogatynska
