I MET THE MAYOR OF MY CITY! When I moved back to Lithuania, this was not something I expected. I was invited to meet the mayor of my city, Panevėžio miesto savivaldybė, and I was officially awarded the title of ambassador of Global Panevėžys. Mayor Račkauskas is probably the coolest, most personable mayor in the world: double piercings in his ear, a ponytail, laidback demeanor - he is artsy and unique, a great representation of his city, and he welcomes everyone to Panevėžys with open arms. Coming back to Lithuania 20 years after leaving, you may think I don't remember a lot or feel disconnected from my roots but that's not the case. It's true, I haven't spent much time here in my adult life, but I'm still proud to be from there and I'll never claim another place as my hometown. We're built different here: we have distinct accents, football is king over basketball (unlike the rest of Lithuania) and we are home of the original čičinskas, a fried delicacy you just need to try. Local industry has defined our city to be tough and resilient 💪 It's amazing how much progress has been made here, and how much the city has developed. Just a few months ago, I was a full-time travel vlogger who was curious to explore the world. Meeting people, learning about their stories, and exploring their cultures was all that was on my mind. Every day was different! I saw some of the most exotic destinations around the world. One thing was missing though: the feeling of purpose, a sense of fulfillment - what can I do to make a difference in the world? My wife Avrina Anderson-Urbonavicius, who is also my business partner and fellow traveler, felt the same way. At the end of our travels, we sat at NAIA Airport (if you know, you know) in Manila on the way back to New York, and we realized that we’d prefer to keep our stay in the US short. We decided to settle in my home country of Lithuania. And then it hit us: what if we decided to help people from around the world find jobs in Lithuania and the rest of Europe? After 10 years in fintech in NYC, I decided to start an international recruitment agency. That’s exactly why I moved my Jamaican wife to Vilnius in the middle of January (I know, it’s cold for me too) and started our business.
