#ALFI is currently chairing the European Trustee and Depositary Forum (ETDF) during the second half of 2024, and today, Francois Baratte, Senior Vice President Industry Affairs, hosted a group meeting at our headquarters. The agenda covered important issues shaping our sector, from liquidity management tools to the EAD review and the recent reports on the Capital Markets Union (CMU). 💡Wrap-up of the #ALFILondon24’s afternoon sessions: Finbarr Browne from Schroders Investment Management kindly served as the Master of Ceremony for this afternoon’s sessions. He set the tone for the first panel, moderated by Joachim Cour (Elvinger Hoss Prussen), where Arnaud Bon (Deloitte), Helena Finn (A&O Shearman), Vanessa Roger Grüneklee (Schroders Investment Management), and Neil Hoyne (Ares Wealth Management Solutions) exchanged ideas about the opportunities and challenges managers face when distributing democratised products. In the next session, Jérôme Mullmaier (Loyens & Loeff), Eve Ellis (Ropes & Gray LLP), and Christophe Joosen (EY) examined the latest regulatory and tax developments and their impact on asset managers. After the coffee break, we enjoyed the traditional CEO panel, where Micaela Forelli (M&G Investments Luxembourg), Hendrik du Toit (Ninety One), and Sandro Pierri (BNP Paribas Asset Management) discussed consolidation trends, focusing on how mergers and acquisitions are reshaping the dynamics of competitiveness. Later on, Raoul Heinen (Linklaters Luxembourg ), Anoosh Arevshatian (Zodia Custody Limited), Jeanette Teo (BlackRock), and Basak Toprak (Onyx by J.P. Morgan) explored how technologies are shaping the future and discussed the impact of digitalisation. The final session was a keynote from Bogdan Gogulan (NewSpace Capital), who highlighted the significant investment opportunities emerging in the booming space sector. 💡Wrap-up of the #ALFILondon24’s morning sessions: The first panel discussion featuring Catherine Martougin (Baker McKenzie Luxembourg), Thomas Seale (Independent Director) and Serge Weyland explored the profound transformations that have shaped the investment management industry over the past 20 years. Right after, we had the chance of listening to James Pomeroy’s keynote address. Global Economist at HSBC, he discussed the global outlook on growth, inflation, and labor markets. Following the keynote speech, Stephanie Dunne (Clifford Chance Luxembourg) moderated a panel featuring Mathew Crowther (PGIM Real Estate), James Sladden (Campbell Lutyens & Co.), and Alastair Yates (Macquarie Asset Management). They examined the current state of the fundraising market and the retail market expansion on the horizon. The morning concluded with an interesting talk between the UK and Luxembourg’s regulators, moderated by Fiona de Watazzi (Arendt & Medernach). Mhairi Jackson (Financial Conduct Authority) and Marco Zwick (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) discussed their organisations’ goals and priorities, highlighting key opportunities and emerging focus interests.
