🌟 With over 160 colleagues from Eurofins Norway joining hands to strengthen their team spirit, we’re looking back at a weekend filled with community, cooperation and fun. 🧪 From challenging games to insightful presentations, our teams strengthened their team spirit while exploring pressing scientific topics – such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and how our scientists are making strides in addressing the impact of such harmful particles. Today is #WorldKidneyDay. Did you know that Ascend Clinical, the largest independent laboratory for #kidneydialysis testing in the United States, joined the Eurofins network last year? 🧪 Ascend was founded in 2000 as a clinical reference laboratory specialising in testing services for kidney disease. For 25 years, Ascend Clinical, now part of the Eurofins network, has been working closely with #dialysis clinics. In addition to providing reliable laboratory testing services, Ascend also offers LabCheck, a web-based software that enables dialysis clinics to operate efficiently and better manage patient care. 🏥 Ascend operates a state-of-the-art laboratory in Sunnyvale, California where millions of tests are processed each month. Several hundred employees work at this 100,000 sq ft facility. 🥼 Last year, Ascend’s Sunnyvale premises won the 2024 Structures Award in the New Office/Industrial Space category at the Silicon Valley Business Journal Awards. With the expanded space and new automation systems, the Eurofins Ascend Clinical team now provides faster test results and a wider range of specialised tests for patients with kidney disease. Trigger warning: Sexual assault. With support from Eurofins Forensic Services employees in the UK, police in West Yorkshire, England have secured more than 500 years of combined jail time for offenders convicted of rape and serious sexual assaults. ⚖️ A dedicated police team was set up 20 years ago, in October 2004, to investigate unresolved sexual offence cases in West Yorkshire. Since then, it has helped to bring about more than 100 convictions for such crimes. Detectives worked closely with forensic experts at Eurofins Forensic Services to use advancements in DNA technology to progress investigations into non-recent cases of rape and serious sexual assault. In most of these cases, the forensic science was not advanced enough to obtain a DNA profile at the time the offence was committed or reported. Thanks to breakthroughs in DNA technology, in some instances, Eurofins Forensic Services scientists could establish a DNA profile from evidence that was sometimes captured decades ago. Then, detectives used the UK's national DNA database which contains millions of DNA profiles of offenders that have been collected by police through the years to search for DNA matches.
