Carbon management plays a vital role in reducing emissions by leveraging nature- and technology-based solutions to capture, store, transport, and utilise CO2. As part of the European Union’s goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040, #Luxembourg hosted a major CCUS conference on 5 February 2025. Organised by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, the Ministère de l'Économie - Luxembourg, and the University of Luxembourg, with support from Luxinnovation, the event brought together 250 participants to explore #CCUS advancements at global, European, and national levels. Key takeaways: 🌍 Net zero strategies – Oliver Geden emphasised integrating CCS, CCU, and CDR to meet climate goals, despite implementation challenges. 📈 Carbon markets growth – Christian Holzleitner projected CCUS volumes reaching 500 million tons by 2050, with increasing carbon farming opportunities. 🔗 CO2 infrastructure – Hany AOUAD highlighted ongoing projects like the Zeebrugge #CO2 pipeline and Antwerp@C export terminal. 🌱 Nature-based solutions – Our colleague Ralf Köhler (Luxinnovation) showcased #AI-driven carbon forestry, #sustainable asset management, and bio-based building materials as carbon sinks. 🏗 Low-carbon construction – Innovative strategies in #sustainablefinance and bio-based materials were explored to decarbonise the building sector. 💰 CCUS funding – Experts outlined #financing options, including impact funds, #carbon markets, and bonds, to accelerate private #investment in net-zero targets.   The conference provided valuable insights and fostered new connections within the Luxembourg #RDI ecosystem, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. #CCUS #Sustainability #NetZero #Innovation #Luxembourg
