I got a little "sidetracked" with physics recently, but SciLux continues as well. This week I talked about software engineering with Prof. Andreas Zeller who is faculty at CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security and professor at Universität des Saarlandes. There was time to explore manual and automated testing, and fuzzing, a technique that involves generating random inputs to identify vulnerabilities in software. Andreas is currently working on bots which would enable better automations in both domains. Just wrapped up an interesting conversation with Prof. Andreas Zeller, tenured faculty at CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security and professor for Software Engineering at Universität des Saarlandes, as well as one of the few researchers to have received two European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grants! One quote that really stood out to us: "If you have no specification of what the program should be doing, you have no errors, you only have surprises." This insight captures the essence of why proper documentation and clear specifications are fundamental to software development.
