À propos
The Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) is the main funder of research activities in Luxembourg. Our vision is to establish Luxembourg as a leading knowledge-based society through science, research and innovation, thereby contributing to the country’s economic diversification and future prosperity. We aim to set up a sustainable world-class research system in Luxembourg that will generate societal and economic impact in key strategic areas. To this end, the FNR invests public funds into research projects in various branches of science and humanities, with an emphasis on core strategic areas. Furthermore, the FNR supports and coordinates activities to strengthen the link between science and society and to raise public awareness for research. It also advises the Luxembourg government on research policy and strategy.

Today, Lena Schaack and I went back to school! We went to the Lycée Robert-Schuman in Luxembourg, as part of the FNR Researchers at School 2025 program. 👩🏫 We had the opportunity to share our career paths in research and tell more about what research is. 👨💻👨🔬 It was great, thanks to Lena and Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR)!

Luxembourg is one of the richest countries in the world, but one in five inhabitants is poor. I have researched what science tells us about #poverty for science.lu. ➡️https://lnkd.in/eFmpkUbe (🇫🇷) ➡️https://lnkd.in/e9wuNcs3 (🇩🇪) Here are a few facts and a few infographics I created for the report. 1️⃣ Economists use several definitions: > extreme absolute poverty: an income of less than USD 2.15 per day > relative poverty: having less than 60% of the national median revenue > absolute poverty: not being able to provide for several things (adequate heating, one week vacation, etc.) > subjective poverty: having difficulty making ends meet > multidimensional poverty: various combinations of the above. 2️⃣The relative poverty threshold varies widely across Europe, from 355 euros in Turkey to 1739 in Luxembourg, reflecting the salaries but also the cost of living. 3️⃣Poverty rates follow inequality measures: higher in south-eastern Europe, lower in the centre and in Scandinavia. 4️⃣ The impacts of poverty are manifold – on health and life expectancy, on education, on crime – and often feed a vicious circle. 5️⃣Experts agree that acting against poverty should follow two prongs: > direct financial aid > indirect support for job search and education. The idea that growth automatically trickles down is widely regarded as misguided. 6️⃣A low-hanging fruit is to reduce the barriers to receiving assistance, since a large proportion of people who are eligible for support do not receive it. Many thanks to Jean-Paul BERTEMES for the trust and Philippe Van Kerm for the interview. #inequality #economics #Europe Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

What does a fish on a bicycle have to do with women in leadership? Everything. Because women don’t need fixing—the system does. The way we define leadership, recognize competence, and break barriers needs to change. Women are shaping the future of science, innovation, and leadership every day. But talent alone is not enough, access to opportunities, mentorship, sponsorship and visibility matter just as much. That’s why, on February 12th, alongside Ministers Yuriko Backes & Stéphanie Obertin, Rector Jens Kreisel, we signed a new agreement for #WomenAndGirlsInScience. That's why on February 25th, at Paperjam Club's #WomenOnBoard-5 Years later, I joined incredible women like Carine Feipel, Dr. Christine Theodorovics, Clara Moraru, Marina ANDRIEU, Marie-Adélaïde Leclercq-Olhagaray, Claudia Eustergerling, Nicole Avez-Nana, Alexa Ballmann, Marie-Hélène Massard alongside Minister Yuriko Backes in delivering powerful speeches on women's participation in decision-making in front of a fabulous audience. Real impact happens also through the dedicated people working behind the scenes. My huge thanks to: 📢 For the campaign and communication strategy of Women and Girls In Science: Geraldine Knudson (UL), Sascha Dahm (MEGA), Tom Wenandy (MESR) and Didier Goossens (FNR), because how we tell the story matters. 🎓 For the mentorship program: Inês Crisóstomo and Skerdi ZANAJ from the University of Luxembourg, Linda Wampach (FNR), & Hélène Jacuszin from Research Luxembourg, ensuring women do not just have a day of recognition but a path to success. 🎤 For the dedicated Team at Paperjam Club/ Mike Koedinger, Thierry Labro and the moderators of the Women on Board event: Stéphanie Kitoskis de Boutselis and Pedro Castilho, because conversations shape mindsets, and mindsets drive change. At the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and across our partner institutions, we remain committed to turning words into action—because gender equality is not just about fairness; it’s about unlocking the full potential of research and innovation. 👏 A special appreciation to all women at Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and the incredible women on our board: President Martine REICHERTS, Isabelle Schlesser, Isabelle Mossong, Simonelli Alessandra, and Anna K. H. Hirsch. Did you know that our board is well-balanced, with five women and four men? This representation matters because diverse leadership leads to better decisions, stronger organizations, and more inclusive innovation. 👏 Let’s celebrate today and tomorrow and every day. Speak up. Participate. Raise awareness. Change happens when we show up and push forward. #WomenInScience #WomenInLeadership #InclusiveLeadership #InternationalWomensDay #DiversityDrivesSuccess #BreakTheBias
