    🔒 ISO 27001 certification – lessons for small teams, big impact ISO 27001 certification isn’t just about ticking a compliance box, it’s a journey that reshapes the way we approach security and information management. For a small, resource-constrained startup like Zortify, this process has taught us a lot about working smarter. Here are a few key learnings: 1️⃣ Collaboration beyond job titles  ISO 27001 compliance is not just a job for the IT or security team. It’s a company-wide endeavour, and everyone here has gone above and beyond their typical duties to get us here. When every team member does their part, security becomes woven into the fabric of the organisation. 2️⃣ Meaningful training  Startups have no time to waste. Instead of overwhelming employees with lengthy, blanket materials, we focused on quick, clear trainings that explained the “why” behind each policy. Understanding the purpose made the process more efficient and effective. 3️⃣ Use existing tools While compliance software is valuable, we found that our own project management system was more than sufficient. By using knowledge we already had, we were able to cut costs and keep things simple — an important approach when resources are tight. 4️⃣ Planning together Time is our most valuable resource, so joint planning was key. As compliance with ISO standards requires everyone’s input, it was important for us to create a plan that respected everyone’s time and accommodated the fast pace of our start-up. For small businesses, ISO 27001 may seem daunting, but with teamwork, efficiency and clear communication, it can be done. It’s not only a success for us, but also a testament to what small teams can achieve together.     Team time at Zortify 🌟 Yesterday we met for our brown bag meeting — our special time to align, share and take a look at what’s coming up at Zortify. From new projects on the horizon to where we are today and what we want to achieve, it was very energizing to share insights and connect as a team. 💼✨ After the updates and discussions, the French team treated us to culinary delights: French specialties, including the long-awaited raclette, which officially opened the cheese season! 🧀🇫🇷  There's nothing like a bit of warmth and flavor to bring everyone even closer together.     Last week, on October 17, 2024, the Doctoral School in Science and Engineering (DSSE) hosted a research day to showcase ongoing projects and encourage collaboration between researchers in computer science. 💻 The event included internal and external keynote speeches, poster presentations by PhD students, an award ceremony for outstanding presentations and a social gathering. Our two researchers Fred Philippy and Jules Wax presented a poster showcasing their ongoing research. Of the 48 poster presentations, Fred Philippy received the prize for the best poster, while Jules Wax was one of the shortlisted candidates. Fred Philippy is working on multilingual NLP for low-resource languages, and Jules research investigates Explainable AI for non-experts. This is crucial as it helps users understand the reasoning behind AI decisions, which in turn promotes trust and reliability in our system so that non-experts can benefit from a more user-friendly interaction with AI-powered systems. 👏🏼 Both of their research are essential for addressing issues of bias and fairness in AI as well as compliance.
