N̶i̶n̶e̶ Eight steps for freight procurement 1. Find the perfect procurement platform. 2. Organize data. 3. Get vendors on board. 4. Training employees. 5. Even train Mike (yes, he like it too). 6. Blaze through RFPs. 7. Select partners. 8. Get asked for the latest quarterly management update. 9. Was exciting to share insights on the new procurement world in a webinar with hundreds of people on Monday. One of the things that stuck out while reflecting on the new reality is the notable change towards shorter tender cycles. Ten years ago, when I was at Kuehne+Nagel, everything was (relatively) smooth. You tendered once a year. Those rates were kept. But today, multinational BCOs we work with at SHIPSTA by Freightos are seeing monthly rate updates with new surcharges. It’s not all bad. I promise. What’s good about it? 1. It means the market adapts faster. Shorter cycles allow us to adjust quickly to market trends, fuel costs, and capacity changes. 2. This builds for more flexibility. BCOs can now adapt procurement strategies more frequently, which is important in an industry buffeted by geopolitical storms, actual storms, pandemics and more.  3. It means more innovation! This pace has driven the adoption of digital platforms, making procurement more efficient and data-driven. Like, of course, Shipsta. More flexibility and adaptability comes at a cost. 1. Like Facebook says, It’s complicated. And increased complexity can be quite challenging to manage for freight buyers.  2. It also means more work. More frequent tenders require more time and effort from procurement teams as well as their vendors. And volatility requires a good vendor relationship. 3. Finally, less predictability means the stability  logistics once had for planning is a thing of the past. Despite these challenges, I believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, assuming the disadvantages can be controlled for with tech. What's your experience with shorter tender cycles? How has it impacted your procurement strategy? Think the shorter cycles will last? #FreightProcurement #LogisticsTrends #SupplyChainManagement

Last week, I found myself on the phone with SHIPSTA by Freightos customer stuck in a familiar dance (and one that’s becoming more and more frequent). As rates change and capacity fluctuates, they end up needing to updating rates more often. But if the past few years have proven anything (think Red Sea, COVID and other logistics headaches), it’s also that building trusted partnerships matters more. These two ideas contradict head on. But here's the thing: frequent updates don't have to mean frequent headaches for anyone! With the right technology, it becomes easier for BCOs to refresh rates (which is key). However, this doesn’t need to mean that a digital shipper creates mountains of analog processes for logistics providers. Imagine a world where: Your LSPs can easily view and update only the rates that have changed You get real-time comparisons with market rates The entire process takes minutes, not days By streamlining the rate update process, you’re not just saving time. You’re also giving LSP partners the tools to be more responsive, competitive, and aligned with our needs. It's a win-win that fosters stronger, more collaborative relationships. The key is to view technology not as a replacement for human interaction, but as an enabler of more meaningful partnerships. Are your tools taking into account that you need to be a good partner? #Procurement #Logistics #raterefresh #freightprocurement #supplychain #marketdevelopment #fluctuation

Dear Ex-cel, I have some bad news. We've had a good run, you and I. It was a solid start. I remember that first time you blew me away with cells. The formulas! The charts. I even liked Clippy! But it's 2024, and this procurement pro needs more than pivot tables and VLOOKUP. Sheet happens. But we’ve been together for a long time so you deserve to know. Here’s where you’re not pulling your weight: - Your idea of "data cleansing" is me pulling all-nighters - When I need real-time market comparisons, you’re never there - You're about as dynamic as a brick when the market goes bonkers There’s someone else. They're smart, fast, and they get procurement. They don't make me choose between my sanity and accurate data. Of course, you'll always have a special place on my hard drive, but this relationship just isn't scalable. It's not me, it's you. No hard feelings? Freight Procurement. P.S. I'm keeping the macros. They're mine now. You can also have the Named Ranges. I never really got them. Read the full post here: https://lnkd.in/eYnP4uJG
