Could I start my Saturday morning with a 45min. presentation on intellectual property for game developers? 👾 Yes, any week! Especially if it includes supporting the amazing developers and game artists in Morocco who also spent their Saturday morning asking some really good IP questions. This great engagement did not surprise me. During the fantastic Morocco Gaming Expo, attended by more than 41k participants, I could see the energy and passion of the many innovative and creative young people. From the pitches, to exhibitions, I came back very impressed and confident that Rabat is on track to becoming a major gaming hub. The support provided by the Government, including through the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, will also make a major difference. This is already confirmed by the many initiatives launched in Morocco and during the Expo, including the Rabat Gaming City, Microsoft Africa Game Camp, or many others. I ended my Saturday morning presentation with the following: 🔹 Please, in order to make sure your benefit from your amazing creativity: track, protect and manage your IP 🔹 Then, not only did I listen to fantastic insights from many industry leaders, but I also tried some amazing games from Morocco. This was a Saturday, after all 🕹 Photo: Morocco Gaming Expo (1); Frelek (2-4) #WIPO #LevelUPyourIP #IPpartnerships #Videogames #IntellectualProperty

🌟 Review of Morocco Gaming Expo 2024 🌟 I just attended the first-ever Morocco Gaming Expo. This event showcased Morocco's strategic location, linking Europe, the US, the Middle East, and Africa. Moroccans’ ability to speak 4+ languages, coupled with their country’s strategic location, positions them as key players in the global gaming market. These talents are ideal for creating products with global appeal. I’m excited to see the innovations that will emerge from this unique combination of geographic and linguistic advantages. However, the booth designs seemed somewhat old-fashioned compared to those at other international conferences, including those in Middle East. One of the highlights was my conversation with Carl Jones. We discussed how robust gaming communities lead to better and more engaging games. Carl explained how players creating their own ways to play can significantly enhance the gaming experience, which I found incredibly inspiring. I also had enlightening discussions with Désiré Koussawo from Sages about expanding businesses across Africa's diverse markets, and Sakkoum A. who organizes the Esports World Cup with its record-breaking $60 million prize pool. I enjoyed a fun chat with Hans Saleh from Garena, Jorrel Batac from NASEF/United States Esports Federation and Danny Woo who runs VC for indie game developers, and a brief conversation with J. David Tardif from Behaviour Interactive (Day by Daylight) while heading to the airport. He too was impressed by the event. Special thanks to Mustapha Moufid, Youngmok Park (YM), Laghrissi Mohamed Amine, and Othmane Guerrou from Proxy Planet for their hard work in making this event a success. This was my first visit to Africa, and their dedication is setting Morocco up to be a major force in the international gaming scene. On the other hand, I want to share my perspective on the gaming community, which I spoke about at the conference: Esports isn't just about playing games; it's a gateway to various technologies and opportunities. Community feedback is vital. While we can't always respond to every request, paying attention to community input is crucial as it provides real, raw feedback and insights into what players truly desire. It's also the fastest way to catch on to gaming trends, often emerging from niche online spaces like Subreddits or Discord servers. Understanding these trends can spark creative ideas and drive product innovation. At OP.GG, we recognize the power of the gaming community. Having raised over $30 million from VCs, we see how supporting community-driven developments through APIs and other tools can lead to substantial entrepreneurial ventures. This approach not only fosters innovation but also enhances the game's value and appeal. In hiring, I prioritize candidates familiar with online communities. Their insights are invaluable as they reflect a deep understanding of where the gaming culture is headed. https://lnkd.in/gURttzJS

Exploring gaming scenes around the world is always a pleasure, but the Morocco Gaming Expo last weekend was an exceptionally memorable experience. Despite being the inaugural event in the nation, the expo was impeccably organized across all facets—exhibition, conference, esports, and networking. What truly stood out was the palpable enthusiasm, passion, and genuine love for gaming displayed by the attendees, as well as the dedication of the entire nation. It brought back nostalgic memories of the vibrant community and passion seen in the South Korean gaming scene 10–15 years ago. As a cultural studies researcher, this experience reaffirmed the importance of inclusivity in our global discussions. There are many marginalized voices yet to be heard, and I am eager to learn more about these perspectives. It is heartening and exciting to see how participation from lesser-known areas will shape the future of our global gaming culture. As a partner at ProxyPlanet, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to assist in organizing such a meaningful event. I look forward to continuing to contribute my expertise to help Morocco’s gaming scene flourish. A heartfelt thank you to Youngmok Park (YM) Samha Choi Othmane Guerrou Mohamed Amine Laghrissi RanHee Lee Chris Hong Nawfal Daoui for allowing me to be part of this remarkable journey. A special shoutout to Dr. Julia Hiltscher and Veli-Matti Karhulahti of Doctor Hiltscher CSR and University of Jyväskylä for joining me on the panel and sharing your invaluable knowledge and experiences during the “Navigating the Horizon of Game Science” session. It is always a pleasure to collaborate with both of you. I also want to thank the many new friends I met; our discussions were incredibly enlightening. Lastly, I extend my sincere gratitude to Mr. Mustapha Moufid, the Ministy of Youth, Culture and Communication MJCC وزارة الشباب والثقافة والتواصل , His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the entire team for their warm welcome and the unforgettable experience. With warmest wishes, I eagerly anticipate the second edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo. #MoroccoGamingExpo #MGE2024 #ProxyPlanet #GamingIndustry #GameScience
