At Secret Paradise, we know there is no greater crisis facing the travel industry—and our planet—than climate change. The #Maldives, a destination on the front line of this global issue, is deeply affected by rising sea levels, shifting weather patterns, and the threat these changes pose to both local communities and our way of life. The team are currently completing 'Climate Justice' basic training, an online course provided by Tourism Cares, to better understand how climate change disproportionately impacts marginalized populations and how we can converse with our guests and advocate for solutions that benefit everyone. Well done to Archie and Shark who completed their training today. #climatechange #climatejustice #learning @tourismcares

Yesterday the Secret Paradise team joined the community and other organisations in Dhiffushi for the #Maldives World Cleanup Day. The clean-ups serve as a reminder of the collective responsibility we share in preserving and maintaining a clean and healthy environment as well as sustainable waste and resources management. World Cleanup Day harnesses the power of volunteers to clean up litter and mismanaged waste from beaches, rivers, forests, and streets. The event emphasises cooperation and collaboration, bringing together citizens, businesses, and government agencies. #worldcleanupday #wastemanagememt #positiveimpact

On International Whale Shark Day, we attended a consultation workshop for the South Ari Marine Park (SAMPa) Management Plan. This workshop is the first in a series of consultation workshops, aimed at finalizing the management plan which is currently in its draft status, for SAMPA to ensure that the Marine Protected Area (MPA) will be fully operational with an effective management plan by December 2024. Taking learnings from Hanifaru Bay Marine Protected Area, data from Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme, and feedback from stakeholders, the plan is designed to bring about much needed changes to snorkeling operations in particular within SAMPA. Changes that will, in the long term, result in positive experiences for both whale sharks and tourists. Thank you to Dhigurah Council and the island community for hosting us.😀 #maldives #MPAs #whaleshark Ibrahim N.

Welcome News!!! The President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has opted not to proceed with the decision to reopen longline fishing in the country, after facing opposition from local fishermen and stakeholders. This decision follows a submission from the Bodu Kanneli Masveringe Union (BKMU) and comes as Muizzu plans to meet with the union and other relevant stakeholders to hold further discussions on the matter. Thank you to everyone who raised their voice in concern. #Maldives #fishing #rightdecision
