Glyphosate is widely used as a herbicide in most large-scale farms, applied before planting to kill weeds and grass🚫🍃🌿. According to the World Health Organization, glyphosate is a carcinogenic chemical☢️, which can cause development disorders on people exposed to it, and it may also lead to digestive disorders. Not only humans are at risk, but glyphosate also affects wildlife, such as plants🌵🌳 and animals 🦡🐇🐁 living on agricultural land or near planting areas. That is why, we, the SPP network, promote organic alternatives and 🌱protect our crops by enhancing biodiversity, as this helps prevent certain pests naturally. At SPP we work every day to bring healthy and environmentally sustainable products to your table. Our environmental standard prohibits the use of pesticides, fertilizers, soil concentrates or conditioners and growth regulators of synthetic origin, established in a list of prohibited products. We have vigorously raised our voice against equally toxic products, such as glyphosate. We categorically declare ourselves against its production, commercialization and application, present in thousands of pesticides in commercial use worldwide. We denounce its use as a highly harmful substance that can have acute and chronic effects on human health and that can remain for years in soil and water. In 2011 it has been declared as a "probable carcinogen" by the World Health Organization (WHO). 18 years ago today, SPP was originally launched as an effort to differentiate and more fiercely promote the vision of Small Producers' Organizations within the global fair trade movement. At the beginning, SPP was presented as an initiative to identify and serve as "home" for small, organized producers, not only from Latin America and the Caribbean, but also open to small organized producers from other continents. Over the last 18 years we have transitioned to being a label and certification system and we've thus become the voice of small producers in international markets. 18 years later, our SPP family is made up of 129 small producers' organizations uniting 84 thousand families, i.e., 2.5 million people, from 28 countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia. More than 70 brands in 40 consumer countries source more than 60 different 100% organic and physically traceable products from us. #organicproducts #organicproducers  #sustainableproduction #WeAreSPP

On this year’s International Day of Forests, we’re pleased to announce that the recently held XII General Assembly of SPP Global approved our new SPP Environmental Standard. This is the outcome of a five-year project involving research, consultation and development. With this, our network is incorporating into its regulations not only the main criteria of the different organic regulations, but also criteria and principles pertaining to Agroecology and Regenerative Agriculture. The Small Producers' Organizations, the companies and the commercial cooperatives that make up our big SPP family have always stood out for having a strong commitment towards peasant agriculture, i.e., agriculture that is based on polyculture fundamentals and seeks to protect biodiversity and groundwater, all while regenerating soils and protecting forests. SPP members have been forerunners of the principles that have recently led the European Community to adopt their Law Against Deforestation (EUDR). With our new SPP Environmental Standard, SPP Global reiterates its commitment regarding forest protection. #InternationalDayofForests #Agroecology #RegenerativeAgriculture #polyculture
