📢 MITI Implements Strategic Measure for Malaysia's Global Halal Trade Efficiency under Budget 2025 The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has announced the upcoming merger of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC). This move, part of Budget 2025, aims to streamline Malaysia’s halal trade ecosystem and strengthen the country's leadership in the global halal market, projected to reach USD5 trillion by 2030. Key highlights: Enhanced Export Capabilities: MATRADE’s extensive global network will complement HDC’s industry expertise, expanding market access for Malaysian halal products and services. Support for SMEs: The merger will streamline services for halal exporters, especially SMEs, fostering job creation and local economic growth. Optimized Resources: The initiative will increase productivity and harness synergies across Malaysia’s halal industry, ensuring resilience and competitiveness. This merger aligns with Malaysia’s goals under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the Halal Industrial Master Plan 2030, positioning Malaysia as a strategic player in the ASEAN region ahead of its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.

I wish to stress Belanjawan 2025 is a Budget dedicated to all the rakyat. This Belanjawan strives to put the house in order: enhance people’s well-being, protect the vulnerable, improve basic infrastructure, and tackle inefficiencies such as corruption and resource leakages. Belanjawan 2025 prioritises the basics, by correcting past inefficiencies and building a strong, sustainable foundation for Malaysia’s future growth. For too long, we focused on “mega” projects. Many added to the national debt but delivered limited benefits to the wider economy. While the mega projects are not the focus of Belanjawan 2025, the Government is ramping up its spending on the nation’s development. In addition to the development expenditure, private-finance initiative (PFI) projects valued at RM9 billion have also been implemented, together with domestic direct investments by Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLIC) amounting to RM25 billion. A total public investment for the purpose of development in 2025 will amount to RM120 billion. As crucial pro-business policies are to attract investments, the Government’s ultimate goal is to raise the floor for all Malaysians — uplift living standards, social protections and raise income levels by ensuring quality job creation, particularly through high-value employment. Key initiatives will address cost of living by strengthening financial assistance, tackling extreme poverty, and supporting vulnerable groups such as the disabled, single parents, and elderly. Public services will be improved, focusing on healthcare, education, and industry aligned vocational training, while expanding infrastructure in rural areas like Sabah and Sarawak. We also seek to raise the economic ceiling for Malaysia overall, by increasing productivity and national income. Without rises in productivity, tax increases or retargeting of subsidies may result in heavier burdens on people, especially if incomes do not grow. Enhancing competitiveness by attracting quality investments focuses on streamlining approval processes, digitalisation, and boosting trade to position Malaysia as a premier investment destination. We will incentivise high-value sectors, including electrical and electronics and green industries. We will strengthen fiscal management and public service delivery through fiscal reforms aimed at reducing the national deficit by broadening the revenue base and targeting subsidies more effectively. Public service transformation will include improving governance to combat resource leakages, salary adjustments for civil servants and reforms to streamline public sector processes. We will ensure the benefits of our progress are equitably shared among all so as to secure a brighter tomorrow for all Malaysian, Insya-Allah. #MalaysiaMADANI
