"I left PwC for esports, a leap sparked by personal passion. The jump from auditing numbers to analysing esports performance was unexpected, but it wasn’t a reckless one. I joined as an intern in 2008, then stayed on for PwC’s Aspiring Accountants Programme. A chemistry graduate diving into accounting wasn’t the norm, but I was determined. I took complementary subjects to meet the requirements, and years later I steadily progressed to become a senior manager in Assurance, specialising in financial services. This inquisitive spirit led me into the profession and beyond, as I believe life's greatest rewards come from taking risks and embracing challenges. In 2018, I embarked on a journey into the world of esports, collaborating with friends and gaining fresh perspectives along the way. The skills I honed in auditing proved valuable in the fast-paced esports environment, from organising events and live broadcasting tournaments to critical decision-making and crisis management. The worlds of auditing and esports might seem different, but core skills like problem-solving, adaptability and teamwork are universal. The most rewarding aspect of my auditing days was undoubtedly the people – the camaraderie and shared purpose – which is why returning felt like a homecoming. While I return to my role managing a different portfolio of clients, the collaborative spirit and supportive environment I experienced during my initial years are still evident. The emphasis on personal and professional growth is as strong as ever. It’s great to have the assurance that people I work with take pride in my accomplishments. Whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting out, or like me, a boomerang employee, you're part of a community that lifts you up. If you’re feeling stagnant or unfulfilled in what you do, reflect, and try to gain some clarity. I went on an exploratory journey to feed my passion, which led me back to PwC with a newfound fulfilment. Yours may look different–and it will be equally valid." - Jay Lim (Senior Manager, Assurance) #MYPwCExperience
