Did you know that we have been harnessing renewable energy resources long time ago? Before we began to burn coal as fossil fuel in the mid 19th century, all the energy we used was renewable. The oldest known use of renewable energy is burning biomass as fuel, which dates back to more than a million years ago! The Romans also harnessed renewable energy, and they were the very first people to use geothermal energy to heat their homes. They utilised warm air moving under floors and inside walls to create the first underfloor heating. 3 -5 September 2024 - Our team from the Safety Regulation department attended the ASEAN 38th Joint Sectoral Committee for Electrical and Electronic Equipment (JSC EEE) Meeting held in Ayutthaya, Thailand. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Phouthasak Baochanh, Deputy Director for Standard Division, Department of Standardization & Metrology of Lao PDR, along side with the Vice-chair, Mrs. Nurhafiza Mohamed Hasan, Director of Safety Regulation, Energy Commission Malaysia. The meeting was attended by representatives from, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam & representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat. The JSC EEE is one of the working groups under the purview of the ASEAN Economic Minister (AEM), with a role to mitigate the technical barriers & facilitate ASEAN members state trading activities. #suruhanjayatenaga #EnergyCommission #ThinkSafetyThinkST #beenergysmart

Structural Changes in the Energy Commission Effective 1 September 2024, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Unit under the Department of Operation Industry will be disbanded. In its place, the Energy Commission has approved the establishment of a new Department of Energy Efficiency and Conservation. This new department will house two key units: the Energy Efficiency Development Unit (EED) and the Energy Conservation & Operations Unit (ECO). The EED will focus on advancing energy-efficient appliances and developing the Building Energy Intensity (BEI) rating system. Meanwhile, the ECO will concentrate on enforcing and ensuring compliance with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA). This includes the appointment of Registered Energy Managers, conducting energy audits, and managing the accreditation process for energy managers, energy auditors, training institutions, BEI labels, and Certificates of Energy Efficiency. Our dedicated colleagues from the previous unit will now be divided between these two new units, each embarking on a new chapter in our shared journey towards energy efficiency. I’m not sure whether to label this as an information update or an appreciation post 😂, but I’d like to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey. There is a close correlation between the Energy System and Critical Minerals such as copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, and rare earth elements, in which most of us don't realise.
