In the pursuit of a greener Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) demonstrates its commitment to long-term sustainability through active climate change initiatives and emission reduction strategies outlined in the 2023 Sustainability Report. This plan is divided into several key stages: 1. Reduction of coal generation capacity 2. Adoption of Carbon Capture technologies 3. Exploration of carbon market trading These initiatives are expected to help achieve the interim target of a 35% reduction in emissions by 2035 and ultimately reach Net Zero by 2050 in a more thorough and efficient manner. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is committed to developing a future-ready workforce through its Better Brighter Internship Programme (BBIP), launched in 2014. BBIP targets students in industry-related disciplines at accredited Malaysian institutes, including Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). Since 2020, TNB has absorbed 168 interns into executive and non-executive roles, with 59 joining in 2023 alone. Innovative Vegetation Management with THySIS Technology Maintaining a reliable power grid while implementing eco-friendly vegetation management along transmission lines is a complex task. To address this, TNB Grid introduced the Tree Hyperspectral Identification System (THySIS), a cutting-edge remote sensing technology utilising Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and hyperspectral imaging. THySIS enables precise identification of flora and fauna, ensuring biodiversity preservation during route selection.
