Recently, The Purple House team embarked on a site visit to Penang, immersing ourselves in firsthand experiences of on-campus facilities and hostel management systems. We are grateful for the warm welcome extended by Peninsula College and Universiti Sains Malaysia, where we had the privilege to explore. During this period, the number of beds has quadrupled to cater to the rapidly expanding cohort of inbound international students. He will highlight notable successes and failures in Australia's pursuit to provide quality, safe, and affordable student housing that meets the expectations of both local and international students. Taking a holistic view of students—including their physical, psychosocial, and educational needs—Cam will provide valuable insights into creating thriving cosmopolitan student communities. About the Speaker: Cameron Bestwick is an expert in university campus housing and communities, based in Melbourne, Australia. He was the youngest university Chief Housing Officer in Australian history, leading the University of Melbourne's student accommodation department through its early establishment years and the COVID-19 pandemic. Cameron has also held leadership roles at the University of Sydney, the Australian National University, and peak bodies such as the Asia Pacific Student Accommodation Association and the National Association of Australian University Colleges. He now operates his own consulting practice, Swick Learning, which collaborates with education-related organizations to help their students become more engaged, resilient, and self-directed.
