On November 5, 2024, Mr. Marsorry Ickua, Officer in Charge at the Bank of Namibia, delivered remarks at the 24th Afreximbank Trade Finance Seminar, emphasising the importance of trade finance as a catalyst for economic growth and deeper integration in Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Mr. Ickua highlighted that “trade finance has become more than just a tool; it is a catalyst for unlocking economic potential and fostering deeper integration across our continent.” He discussed the critical role of digital solutions in streamlining cross-border payments, making trade more accessible for small businesses and MSMEs. Additionally, he emphasised the importance of addressing non-tariff barriers to fully realise the potential of the AfCFTA, noting that "the lack of trade finance itself acts as a non-tariff barrier, limiting our continent's trade potential." Afreximbank continues to drive Africa’s trade ambitions through initiatives like the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) and a US$10 billion Adjustment Fund, enabling countries and businesses across Africa to tap into the AfCFTA's full potential. #TradeFinance #Afreximbank #BankOfNamibia #PAPSS #AfCFTA #AfricaTrade #EconomicGrowth
