In Namibia, cash remains essential for many, despite the growing popularity of digital transactions. While around 67% of Namibians held a bank account in 2017, a significant number still prefer cash savings at home, with 30% keeping money outside banks in 2021, driven by convenience and the avoidance of banking fees. For those with limited access to bank services, cash offers immediate use for daily expenses like groceries, transport, and emergencies. Informal traders and low-income workers also rely heavily on cash for practicality. With over N$5.2 billion in circulation in 2023, cash continues to play a central role in the financial system, as recognised by the Bank of Namibia, although it comes with security risks. The enduring significance of cash for Namibians highlights both its accessibility and the need for gradual adoption of electronic channels. #OldMutualNamibia #FinancialEducation

Join us in welcoming Jerry-Ann who joins Old Mutual as our newest Personal Lines Underwriter. She believes that stepping out of our comfort zones is essential to helping others. As an adventurer, she channels her energy into exploring our beautiful country, discovering hidden gems one adventure at a time. After completing her grade 12 at Delta Secondary School, she pursued her passion for the travel industry with a tourism degree. However, the challenges of COVID prompted her to pivot, leading her to complete her Marketing Honours degree at NUST and transition into the insurance industry. It has been a blessed journey for her, and she’s thrilled to have found her path, she hasn’t looked back since. #MeetOurMutualites #PersonalLinesUnderwriter #OldMutualNamibia

As technological progress and new sources of data constantly change our economy and society, they are on the verge of radically changing the insurance industry. From pure protection against risks, increasingly, insurance means assuming a proactive attitude anticipating and preventing them. The current digital revolution does not only alter the type of risk the insurer covers, but it is also gradually changing how they carry out underwriting, distribution, and claims management. #OldMutualNamibia #DigitalisationInInsurance

With the recent increase in the tax threshold from N$50 000 to N$100 000, many Namibians now have more disposable income. To make the most of this opportunity, it’s important to prioritise building an emergency fund, saving for short-term goals, and exploring investment options like fixed deposits and unit trusts. Don't forget to plan for retirement through a pension fund or retirement annuity and continue learning about personal finance to make informed decisions. Now is the perfect time to reassess your financial strategy and put that extra money to good use. #OldMutualNamibia #TaxSavings #DisposableIncome
