Waterline Square Park’s Completion Revealed In New Photographs, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

Today, YIMBY has a new set of architectural photographs of the recently completed Waterline Square Park, photographed by Elizabeth Felicella. The 2.6-acre green space surrounds the towers of Waterline Square, a three-tower residential complex from GID Development Group on the waterfront of Manhattan’s Upper West Side. We also have a construction timelapse courtesy of GID and EarthCam.

The view of the timelapse video is looking north toward the project, and shows the rise of the differently shaped reinforced concrete edifices and their distinguished curtain walls. Parts of Waterline Square Park and the expansive children’s playground can be seen between the buildings being worked on.

Photographs show the different phases of the construction and completion of Waterline Park, which was designed by MNLA and features expansive green lawns, lush landscaping with over 200 planted trees of 20 species, 65 of which are native to New York and placed in large garden beds, a mixture of curved walkways and angled paths, a children’s playground, fountains, a boardwalk, and plentiful outdoor seating. A heavier concentration of the trees is specifically placed on the western half of the park in order to absorb carbon dioxide emissions and to mitigate the noise from cars running up and down Twelfth Avenue and winds coming off the Hudson River.

The multi-building development is situated across from the Hudson River and Riverside Park South between West 59th Street, West 61st Street, and Freedom Place South. The three towers and their distinct façades are the works of three separate and notable architectural firms: One Waterline Square by Richard Meier & Partners with interiors by Champalimaud;  Two Waterline Square by Kohn Pedersen Fox with interiors by Yabu Pushelberg; and Three Waterline Square by Rafael Viñoly with interiors by Groves & CoHill West Architects served as the executive architect for the entire master plan.

These are obviously not “photographs”, but are renderings by the developer.

  2. looks great, but NO WAY these are photographs!

  3. Ethics anyone ?

  4. It looks like the planet Krypton before it blew up.
A completely cold an inhuman space.
I wouldn’t live there in the middle of nowhere if they gave me their largest Penthouse apartment.

I think these are photos. Maybe touched up but there are people walking in masks in the pictures.
Definitely not enough public space for the density of the project. The developers got a gift fro the city

  6. I actually think Waterline Square is a really nice complex, especially the park. The towers look a little bit too futuristic for my taste, but it’s not too bad. Overall, a great project. ⛲

I’ve walked through it. It’s pleasant. Just wish it was 3-4x the FAR/density. Here’s hoping City Council District Six voters don’t return Gale Brewer to her old seat.

    They are absolutely real photos.
    Really.

  9. Add to it all Upper West Side?? Since when. Lately been seeing UWS used for things in the 60s like Lincoln Center which is even stretching for me. West Side yes but UWS for me always began maybe W 70 at minimum. RE vultures of the Hell’s Kitchen/Clinton nature.
Kinda like Waterline visually even though Covid has exposed its cold heart.

  10. It’s beautiful.

  11. Where is this located? Why does Yimby give cross streets?

1st sentence under the photos. I had to look back over to find location too.

  12. Anything built in urban areas is ok with me. Leave nature alone … build in cities, go up!!

Too much like Narcissus from Greek mythology. Does not pay homage to the greatly iconic Manhattan skyscrapers of past. What happened to beauty? Not in the mirror, that is….but in real architecture? Too much glass. Fearful of glass tumbling down to the sidewalks.
