Some Highlights from Argentil Group Ongoing Engagement in the Healthcare Space Over the past week Àrgentil Capital Management Limited (ACML) team engaged in key activities to support our on-going investments in the healthcare sector. The healthcare sector is a key focus sector at Àrgentil as we seek to ensure many #nigerians and #africans can have access to affordable medication. At the #AVCA2024 conference in #Joburg our Managing Partner Gbenga Hassan participated along with other industry experts including Romen Mathieu Managing Partner of The EuroMena Funds, Sandrine Henton Director of EG Capital and Koome Imathiu of ASCENT SECURITIES AND CAPITAL SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED and Skander Oueslati AfricInvest Group on a panel discussion to share their insights on the theme: "When Health is Wealth: Unlocking Opportunities for Health Financing in Africa”. The conversations noted there are strong opportunities for the private sector to support investments in the sector in Africa utilising different investment instruments including #debt, #mezzanine and #equity. It was also noted there are regulatory hurdles which make it challenging for private market investors and how important it is to continue to engage all stakeholders, so our market receives the required funding to support the delivery of affordable healthcare and medicines. While in Lagos our portfolio company Sygen Pharmaceuticals Ltd led by its CEO & Charles Ogunwuyi hosted the team from Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office(FCDO) Development Director, Cynthia Rowe of Economic Development Sally Woolhouse Manufacturing Africa Advisor for Nigeria Beth Davies-Kumadiro, Yasmin Kamara-Osaghae the Nigeria Country Manager. The meeting was a great opportunity to engage with the FCDO and Manufacturing Africa teams on the support being provided to Sygen via Manufacturing Africa, and how to support the development of a sustainable local pharmaceutical industry in Nigeria. Throwback to the 2nd Annual Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, Nigeria conference where Gbenga Hassan, Managing Partner of Àrgentil Capital Management Limited (ACML) was one of the Keynote speakers in the third-panel session discussing “Infrastructure and the Transition to a Green Economy”. Gbenga Hassan alongside other distinguished speakers including Olaedo Osoka Chief Executive Officer of Daystar Power Group, Temilade Denton, Social Impact and ESG Manager, Alitheia Capital provided valuable insights on the importance of green financing in Africa. They emphasized the importance of adequate sustainable infrastructure in simplifying the transition to a green economy in Africa. Gbenga Hassan specifically spoke on the unique challenges and opportunities that Nigeria faces in implementing sustainable infrastructure projects and embracing green technologies. He also shared his thoughts on the most exciting infrastructure and climate-related portfolio companies that exist today in Nigeria. Speaking on these he emphasised the massive opportunity available in the renewable energy sector, and how most Nigerians ( over 80%) own and use generators to meet their electricity requirements. This in and of itself presents an opportunity for cleaner and more sustainable energy projects in Nigeria.
