We're thrilled to celebrate Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu , the newly elected President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) for the 2024 - 2026 term! As the first African to hold this position, Dr. Zainab is a trailblazer in the fight against cancer. Dr. Zainab is a renowned consultant pediatrician, founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, and a member of the Nigerian Cancer Society and the American Society for Clinical Oncology. Her impressive track record includes serving on various national and international committees focused on cancer awareness, prevention, and control. Dr. Zainab's leadership expertise shines through her roles as: - Chairperson of First Ladies Against Cancer - Co-chair of the cervical cancer technical working group in Nigeria - Senior Advisor on Women's Health and cancer advocacy to the Coordinating Minister of Health of Nigeria - A third-term member of the UICC Dr. Zainab aims to position UICC as a catalyst for progress in cancer control, focusing on closing the cancer care gap, capacity building amongst others. She has provided training for healthcare workers and supported cancer patients through her personal foundation and is grateful for the global support.
