We are proud to share the story of GWNET members Iry Raïssa Alaoy and her mentor Mobola Atobatele, FIMC CMC®. 👏 🎉 When Iry 'Raïssa' Alaoy applied for our 2023 Women in Renewable Energy in Africa Network (W-REA) mentoring programme, she felt “out of place” in the energy sector due to her non-energy engineering background. After winning a place on the programme — organised by GWNET, IFC - International Finance Corporation, and Energy2Equal — Raïssa was paired with her mentor, Mobola Atobatele. Although now an experienced tri-sector leader and business development professional with over 18 years' experience, Mobola had also undergone a career transition into the energy sector. Under her mentor’s guidance, Raïssa was able to build greater confidence, particularly in public speaking and networking, while also learning how to progress in her professional journey. Mobola especially encouraged her mentee to apply for the Mandela Washington Fellowship, a prestigious programme by the U.S. Government aimed at young African leaders. In the end, Raïssa was one of only 11 individuals selected to represent Madagascar from over 600 applicants. She has since completed leadership training in business at the highly respected Purdue University in the U.S. 🎊 🙌 To those considering joining the mentoring programme, Mobola’s advice is simple: “Go for it.” According to her, the mentoring experience is not only enriching but also highly rewarding. Mobola adds that when mentorship goes well, it offers the privilege of witnessing someone's journey toward becoming a better version of themselves. ✨ Are you a woman working in energy and looking for career growth opportunities? Sign up for GWNET membership—it's free! You'll gain access to valuable resources (upcoming events, training opportunities, job vacancy announcements etc) and can learn about our upcoming mentoring programmes. ✨ #WomenInEnergy #Mentorship #CleanEnergy #Leadership #MandelaWashingtonFellowship #GWNET #GWNETMemberSpotlight

Last week, GWNET Co-Founder and Senior Expert Irene Giner-Reichl visited Cairo for the kick-off of the MENALINKS programme and to strengthen ties with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE). MENALINKS, a programme funded by Germany, aims to enhance electricity grids in the region, making them better equipped for the critical energy transitions ahead. We are also exploring how to firmly integrate the gender dimension into this important initiative. #WomeninEnergy #EnergyTransition #GWNET

Inspiring, vibrant, and very productive! These three words perfectly capture the first day of the OSCE-GWNET study tour. All participants are talented female energy professionals from Central Asia. We kicked off the day with a breakfast meeting at the OSCE Secretariat, joined by OSCE Deputy Director Catherine Fearon, Ambassador Bakyt Dzhusupov, and various OSCE delegations. During the session, our participants shared how the mentoring programme has helped them build professional confidence and offered their perspectives on empowering more women in the energy sector. In the afternoon, our participants attended a workshop on Female Leadership skills, led by the inspiring Maren Wölfl at the Climate Lab. The workshop set the perfect tone for the week, encouraging our mentees to engage in meaningful conversations, share professional challenges, and celebrate success stories. The study tour is part of our 2024 "Empowering Central Asian Women in Renewable Energy" mentoring programme, which is organised by the both the OSCE and GWNET. A huge thanks to our counterparts at the OSCE for their support. We can't wait to see how the rest of the study tour unfolds! 🩵💙 Last week, GWNET teamed up with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) to organise a study tour in Hamburg for the 2023 cohort of our Women in Wind Global Leadership mentoring programme. As part of the programme, the participants attended the WindEnergy Hamburg exhibition, and took part in skills-based workshops and industry-focused talks.
