JOINT PRESS BRIEFING ON CHILD PROTECTION IN BORNO STATE Today, the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development, in collaboration with Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), and the Borno State Children’s Parliament held a joint press briefing to address the alarming rise in child abuse cases. This follows the recent brutal assault on a child for plucking mangoes, a clear violation of the Borno State Child Protection Law (2021) and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act (2021). The briefing emphasized the urgent need for stronger enforcement of child protection laws, swift prosecution of perpetrators, and increased public awareness on children’s rights. Stakeholders were urged to take immediate action in strengthening child protection systems, ensuring justice for survivors, and empowering the Borno State Children’s Parliament to advocate for safer communities for children. Protecting children is a shared responsibility. No child should suffer violence, humiliation, or abuse. Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), with funding from the Dutch Relief Alliance, in partnership with Oxfam in Nigeria and CRUDAN HQ conducted the End of Project Closeout Learning Review Workshop for the Nigeria Acute Crisis Joint Response (Floods) project, aimed at delivering clean water, essential NFIs, and cash assistance to vulnerable families, helping strengthen resilience during this challenging time. Over the past six months, this project has provided clean water, essential NFIs, and cash assistance to vulnerable families across Usmanti Dalori Ward, Old Maiduguri Ward, Gwozari, Flatari Community of Tamsu Ward, Mashamari Community, Gongolong, Maisandari Ward, Galtimari, and Tamsu Ngadua Ward in Borno State. At the workshop, key stakeholders, including government representatives, community members, and partners reflected on the project’s impact, shared key achievements, and discussed challenges and best practices. World Water Day 2025: Preserving Our Glaciers for a Sustainable Future The theme for World Water Day 2025 is "Glacier Preservation". This year's theme highlights the critical role of glaciers in sustaining life and the water cycle, and the urgent need to address the impacts of their rapid melting.¹ Glaciers are melting at an alarming rate, impacting water security, communities, and ecosystems worldwide. The campaign aims to inspire action to protect glaciers and ensure sustainable water management in the face of climate change. To maximize attention on this critical issue, a joint celebration of the World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day will be organized, highlighting the accelerating threat of glacier melt and its impact on water security, communities, and ecosystems.

As part of our commitment to ensuring the safety of all staff, we recently conducted a two-day Fire Safety Training with the support of the Federal Fire Service. This training is crucial for equipping our team with the knowledge and skills to prevent and respond to fires effectively, ensuring a safe working environment for everyone. By prioritizing fire safety, we not only comply with legal obligations but also foster a culture of preparedness and responsibility.

As part of our commitment to strengthening local capacity in GBV prevention, child protection, and survivor support, Rise To Inspire Africa Initiative, In partnership with Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), recently conducted an intensive six-day training under the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)-funded PACT-LAB project.
