Josh (not real name), a 14 year old boy resident of Abeokuta, was arrested by the police on the 10th of November 2024 for stealing the cable wire attached to the picture, from a church. All efforts by the police to contact his parents/guardians were abortive as they could not be reached by phone nor by the address provided by Josh On 14th of November 2024, Josh was arraigned to court and charged with the offence of stealing (picture of charge sheet in the next slide) Our Lawyer, stationed at our justice hub in Ogun state met Josh while his case was been registered in court without legal representation, She was briefed of his case and she took on the case to provide him with free legal representation. Josh pleaded guilty to the charge and our lawyer addressed the court to caution him rather than sentence him to prison as he is a young offender, she also informed the court that measures will be put in place to ensure he is reunited with his family. The court cautioned and discharged him on the condition that Headfort locates and hand him over to his family After 4 days in police custody, Josh regained his freedom and we have ensured that he is in the care of his family. The impact of legal aid is enormous, it reunites families, it can prevent death, it provides access to better health and economic opportunities for beneficiaries, we urge you to support our Legal Aid project to support the many behind bars. consider making a donation today through the details below. Survivors of sexual violence have a range of legal rights designed to protect and support them. The Nigerian Constitution, alongside various laws such as the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP) and the Criminal Code, guarantees the right to seek justice, protection, and support following instances of sexual violence. Despite these legal frameworks, many survivors face significant barriers in accessing justice. We must continue to emphasize the need for stronger implementation of existing laws, improved support systems for survivors, and greater public awareness of the legal rights available to them. The journey to justice for survivors of sexual violence is not just a legal battle, but a fight for dignity, healing, and societal change. Together, we can raise awareness, and advocate for lasting change. Every survivor deserves to be heard. Every survivor deserves justice. Join us in standing up for what is right. Stand with survivors. Stand with Headfort Foundation for Justice. #BreaktheSilence #JusticeForSurvivors #accesstojustice #HeadfortFoundationForJustice

We’re empowering the next generation of active citizens! In partnership with Citizens' Gavel we hosted transformative online safety sessions across 5 schools in Lagos. From protecting personal data to understanding digital rights. A big thank you to Citizens' Gavel for their invaluable collaboration in making this sessions a success. At Headfort Foundation for Justice, we believe that safeguarding online spaces is just as vital as defending human rights in the real world. #DigitalSafety #HumanRights #Empowerment #StaySafeOnline #HeadfortFoundationforjustice

During our recent session at Ayedere Ajibola High School, we had the opportunity to speak with Mary Ikhine from our partners Citizens' Gavel about her experience so far in educating members of our Human Rights Club on staying safe online. She shared how rewarding it has been to see the students engage actively with the topic of online safety. Mary Ikhine expressed hope that the students would not only apply the knowledge they’ve gained but also become advocates for safe online practices within their communities. We look forward to continuing this impactful journey, equipping youth with the tools they need for a safe and responsible online experience. Together, we are making significant strides toward ensuring a safer and more just society for all. #humanrights #onlinesafety #partners #headfortfoundationforjustice

In Nigeria, the number of recorded sexual violence cases continues to rise, with thousands of individuals involved in cases of sexual violence every year. However, this figure likely reflects only a fraction of the true scale of the issue. Many perpetrators evade justice due to inadequate law enforcement, systemic weaknesses, and a societal reluctance to confront these uncomfortable realities. It is imperative that we hold offenders accountable, protect survivors, and restore trust in the justice system. Each documented case serves as a stark reminder that urgent action is needed to break the cycle of violence and create a safer, more just society. #BreaktheSilence #JusticeForSurvivors #accesstojustice #HeadfortFoundationForJustice

Every day, survivors of sexual abuse courageously step forward in search of justice only to find their cries ignored. Despite their brave efforts to report these heinous crimes, many perpetrators escape accountability, leaving survivors trapped in a cycle of pain and silence because our justice system is failing those who need it most. Our mission is to ensure that every survivor of sexual abuse, no matter where they are, has real access to justice. we’re not just advocating for survivors. we’re committed to transforming the system that fails them. From providing legal support to empowering survivors with the knowledge of their rights, we are building a future where justice is accessible to all, no matter their circumstance. No one should ever face this journey alone. Together, we can raise awareness, and advocate for lasting change. Every survivor deserves to be heard. Every survivor deserves justice. Join us in standing up for what is right. Stand with survivors. Stand with Headfort Foundation for Justice. This staggering statistics reflects the deep barriers survivors face when seeking justice, fear of not being believed, victim-blaming, and a justice system that too often fails to protect. Even more troubling, just 0.9% of perpetrators are brought to trial, and the conviction rate is even lower. At Headfort foundation for Justice, we are committed to ensuring that survivors receive the justice they deserve. Through advocacy, legal support, public awareness campaigns, and partnerships with key organizations, we work tirelessly to break down the barriers that prevent accountability. Every survivor deserves a fair chance at justice, and every perpetrator must be held accountable. It’s time to break the silence, challenge the status quo, and create a world where justice is truly served. #EndSexualViolence #JusticeForSurvivors #accesstojustice #HeadfortFoundationForJustice
