As part of ongoing Project Aisha activities, we spent the past week onboarding our maternal health influencers in Ifako Ijaiye and Epe. Project Aisha- funded by MSD-for-Mothers and implemented by the consortium of Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation, IHI and mymdoc has a goal of zero preventable deaths in mothers and newborns. MHIs spend time in communities speaking with pregnant women and those who influence their care, including their family members, helping them understand the need for skilled birth attendance and reasons for immediate referrals ( red flags). They will meet with women in small and large groups and one-on-one meetings through outreach activities. These activities are part of the critical peer-to-peer strategy to support frontline healthcare workers to achieve zero preventable deaths by teaching women about red flags, the importance of skilled birth attendance and all the options in the maternal healthcare continuum in communities. We continue to emphasize safe, respectful maternal care during pregnancy and delivery, as well as the importance of ensuring women's voices are heard. As a consortium, we enjoy the support of Ward Health Leadership and the local government health educators working with the Primary Healthcare Board and the Medical Officers of Health who supervise the work of MHIs in communities. It is critical to protect and preserve the continuum of maternal healthcare services in communities to ensure no woman dies while giving life, and no baby dies on their birthday. These public-private partnerships make it possible to deliver on this promise At Ingress Health Partners, we are laser-focused on increasing the market share of safe skilled birthing options in communities across Nigeria, and Project Aisha represents yet another opportunity to make zero preventable deaths our reality in Nigeria. In October 2023, Ingress Health Partners team members in conjunction with the Ward Health leadership of Epe and Ifako Ijaiye conducted maternal health influencer trainings in both LGAs. The training sought to identify and sensitize maternal health influencers within these communities who regularly interact with and access women of childbearing age. Their mandate is to educate these women in communities on red flags in pregnancy, birth preparedness and complication readiness, expectations for healthy pregnancies, and the benefits of ANC for mothers and babies, among others. Over the two-day training in each location, the MHIs along with ward health leaders and primary health centre team leads worked through lectures, interactive group discussions and role play with feedback, engaged in learning sessions, and subsequently designed strategies around gaining the confidence of opinion leaders, group leaders and gatekeepers. They also identified important entry points for the dissemination of information. These were days of hard work and a lot of fun and laughter; participants left energized and with a deep sense of responsibility and excitement about learning from classroom to community. The work of the MHIs will be complemented by social and traditional media support to amplify their messages You can learn more about Project Aisha at https://lnkd.in/d5BdndGK #maternalhealth #maternalmortality #newbornhealth #primaryhealthcare #qualityhealthcare #maternalequity #healthinfluencers #maternalhealthinfluencers #birthpreparedness #redflagsinpregnancy #complicationreadiness #communityengagement #womenshealth #stakeholderengagement
