Strengthening Partnerships for Nigeria’s Healthcare Value Chain This week at the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), we engaged with key international partners to explore collaborative opportunities that will drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s healthcare sector. 🔹 Monday, February 17th, 2025 – We welcomed officials from UNICEF Nigeria, including the Chief of Supply, Chief of Health, and Health Manager, for discussions on potential areas of mutual interest and collaboration to enhance healthcare delivery. 🔹 Tuesday, February 18th, 2025 – A delegation from Empower Swiss (Empower School of Health) kicked off their research engagement in Abuja with a visit to PVAC. Their feasibility study will assess the capacity needs of Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry, supporting PVAC’s plans to establish a Manufacturing Academy that will strengthen local production capabilities. 🔹 Wednesday, February 19th, 2025 – We had the pleasure of hosting H.E. Pieter Leenknegt, the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria. Our discussions centered on fostering an enabling environment for Belgian healthcare businesses looking to invest in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing sectors. PVAC, Siemens, and Tanit Partnership to Expand Nigeria’s Capacity for Health Delivery December 10, 2024 Abuja, Nigeria – The Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC) has signed a pivotal Letter of Intent with Siemens Healthineers and their Nigerian partner TANIT Medical Engineering Limited to advance healthcare accessibility and capacity in Nigeria. The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, National Coordinator of PVAC, on behalf of the Nigerian government, with Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Health & Social Welfare, present at the signing. The partnership aims to promote the assembly of ultrasound systems, enhance medical training for Nigerian professionals, and boost the self-sufficiency of the healthcare system nationally. Dr. Kevin Massoudi, Vice President and Head of Public Sector Engagement for Siemens Healthineers (Middle East and Africa), emphasized Siemens’ dedication to enhancing diagnostic services in Nigeria and noted the role that Nigeria plays as a champion for health innovation on the continent. This agreement reflects PVAC’s commitment to reducing import dependency and improving access to medical devices over the coming years.

PVAC and Abbott Join Forces to Localize Rapid Diagnostic Test Production in Nigeria December 10, 2024 Abuja, Nigeria – In a major step toward improving healthcare access, the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (Pty) Ltd. The agreement, signed by Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, PVAC’s National Coordinator and Dr. Rabah El Menshawy, Vice President for Europe, Middle East, and Asia at Abbott aims to localize the production of rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) in Nigeria. This collaboration will boost local manufacturing of RDTs and specifically accelerate the development of diagnostics to support Nigeria’s goal to end HIV infections by 2030. The signing ceremony at the Federal Ministry of Health also had participation from the senior management of Turnkey Medical Equipment company JNC International Limited – a key partner and facilitator of this collaboration. Public-Private Partnerships such as these are critical in PVAC’s mission towards creating affordable, high-quality healthcare products for Nigerians across the nation.

This week, PVAC’s National Coordinator Dr. Abdu Mukhtar and team were hosted at the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF) Eye Hospital. This visit included discussions around TCF projects, mission & vision, hospital tour and exploration of collaborative opportunities. TCF (managed by the Aravind Eye Care System) have been playing an instrumental role in enhancing access to affordable and quality eye care services in Nigeria. The visit ended with discussions on areas of collaboration in line with PVAC’s mandate to improve access to quality healthcare services and reduce outbound medical tourism in Nigeria.
