One project I was glad to be a part of during my 6-month internship this year at The Waste Museum was the construction of a Gazebo at the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan. The Waste Museum team had been invited to coordinate the construction of the gazebo project. The plastic bottles used for the construction of the gazebo were used for the decoration of the stage used for a stage play titled "Mammy Waters Wedding" to commemorate the World Environment Day 2024 🌎 Mammy Water's Wedding was a stage play that was done to emphasise the importance of the relationship of man with his environment in this case the water bodies. Instead of throwing the plastic bottles away after the stage play they decided to use them in the construction of a gazebo there at their department. We used more than 2,500 plastic bottles to construct the gazebo. It was a beautiful experience working on the gazebo and it reemphasises the importance of teamwork and collaborative efforts in combating the issues of climate change. The construction of the gazebo using plastic bottles helps to instil the consciousness in the minds of people that the waste we generate is a valuable resource that we can always explore. Just like my boss Mrs Adejumoke Olowookere will always say "Waste is not waste until you waste it." Together let's join hands to build a sustainable planet for you and me.
