Last week, YouthHubAfrica, in partnership with the West African Civil Society Institute and others hosted the West African Civil Society Week in Abuja, Nigeria. The two-day event, themed “Leveraging Technology for Civic Engagement and Social Change in West Africa,” brought together activists, thought leaders, and change-makers to discuss the vital role technology plays in driving social impact and strengthening civic engagement in our region. A highlight of the event was the powerful report launch carried out by Spaces for Change (S4C), with support from the Ford Foundation. Titled “The Proliferation of Dual-Use Surveillance Technologies in Nigeria,” this report highlights the rise of surveillance tools with dual functions, sparking crucial conversations around digital rights, privacy, and the balance between security and democratic freedoms. This event was a reminder of the potential for tech-driven civic change in West Africa and the importance of safeguarding our digital rights. #WestAfrica #CivilSocietyWeek #DigitalRights #PrivacyMatters #TechForGood #CivicEngagement #SocialChange #Nigeria
