💞 My 100WEEKS Meet Alphonsine, a powerhouse from Rwanda. At 45, this mother of seven is the perfect example of what it means to be unstoppable. Before she joined the 100WEEKS program, Alphonsine and her husband were struggling to make ends meet. But Alphonsine knew she was meant for more than just getting by, and joined the 100WEEKS program. Soon she became a financial force. Her capital swiftly multiplied from a modest 400K Rwandan francs (200 euros) to an impressive 1 million (700 euros) – and in a flash she became a powerhouse in her community. Thanks to the tools and knowledge she gained from 100WEEKS, she’s invested in herself and her family in ways that will last: a cassava grinder, three pigs, and a plot of land that’s setting her up for long-term success. Besides that, she has a booming ikigage business: the local beer. She's the favourite bar in the community. Alphonsine is proof that with the right mindset, any challenge can be turned into an opportunity! #100WEEKS #femaleentreprenreur #povertyalleviation #donateeffectively #femalebusinessowner #womensupport!

This Monday morning we are very excited to share our collaboration with Ahold Delhaize, and Sucafina! Together, we are looking for solutions to reduce the risks for smallholder coffee farmers, so they can grow towards a living income. One of the problems that needs solutions is the age of the average coffee tree. Old coffee trees give very little yield, which is why they need to be 'stumped' (cutting all their main stems) , in order for new productive branches to grow. However, before productivity is back, it takes two years, and smallholder farmers do not take that financial risk. Here 100WEEKS enters the stage. For the two years of financial risk, we support the smallholder farmers, so that they can finally stump those old trees. The result: the yield tripples and the quality improves as well. This exciting collaboration is also mentioned in Boon Magazine, the Albert Heijn platform for coffee lovers, still available in the shops! #coffee #sustainablecoffee #directcash #livingincome

Do you know? Wildlife populations have fallen by a staggering 73%. Nature is disappearing, but we completely depend on it. Read the 2024 living planet report from WWF https://lnkd.in/gujXwSHb The report warns that, as our Earth approaches dangerous tipping points posing grave threats to humanity, a huge collective effort will be required over the next five years to tackle the dual climate and nature crises. An important cause of biodiversity loss is extreme poverty. People depend for their survival on poaching and cutting trees in wild-parks. To protect these beautiful and important habitats and wildlife we need a #conservationrevolution: Simply give cash + training to people living around wild parks. They start income generating activities as alternatives to poaching. That is exactly what 100WEEKS is doing around Nyungwe National park in Rwanda. 𝐎𝐧𝐳𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐳𝐢𝐣𝐧 𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐆𝐢𝐟𝐭! This week, we had a big graduation ceremony in Ivory Coast! In cooperation with partners Unilever, Cargill and CARE, we finalized a program that empowered 400 women in cocoa-growing communities! We worked together with two cocoa cooperatives: Canwori and Coopagrel, and the results are astonishing! The women invested in their farms, started alternative income generating activities, and reduced the gap to a living income. The ceremony was as celebratory as you would expect. It kicked off with singing, dancing, and theatrical performances by the women, showing their joy and feeling of fulfillment. These women, once marginalized, have now become confident leaders and examples for the community. At the end, all participating women received their graduation certificates, as a testimony to their achievements. Now they continue their journey, because the impact of the 100WEEKS program does not stop here. Farms will grow, businesses will further develop, and communities will grow out of poverty. We all know it, but we’ll say it once more: when we support one woman, we support an entire community. #cocoa #femaleempowerment #valuechains #partnership #chocolate

Colleague Jurrian Veldhuizen wrote an opinion article in the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad about the biodiversity crisis and how we structurally ignore the importance of poverty alleviation. Because nature's time is running out. Wildlife is decreasing at an alarming speed worldwide because of poaching, population growth, smaller habitats and pollution. One of the main drivers is extreme poverty. Poverty drives people to desperate measures, forcing them to choose between survival and conservation. Innovative and bold solutions are needed to create sustainable sources of income as alternatives to poaching and deforestation. Therefore, we have started our own conservation revolution. After a successful pilot in Rwanda, 100WEEKS has started a major research program in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research, in which the poorest people around national parks receive 100 weeks of cash and training. We know that traditional conservation methods are not enough. We need bold, new solutions. And that is what we are doing. But to realize this project, we need you. Will you join the revolution? Read more about it in the link in the comments! #natureconservation #cop16 #biodiversity #poverty

📈 Not storytelling, but storyproving Ever wondered why our impact numbers change so often? No, it does not mean that we have a sloppy intern who mixes up our data (we only have rockstars). It means that our numbers actually change, every day! Let me explain. At 100WEEKS, our data is dynamic, just like the progress our women make. Every week, we conduct hundreds of surveys to track each and every participant. As the women open businesses, grow their income, and gain financial independence, our data shows their successes. But this also means, that our average numbers change. Last week, 83% of all participants stayed out of poverty. Today, it’s 84%. That’s not a mistake, it’s real change, happening in real time. Consistency is not about repeating the same story. Consistency is about repeating the facts. Day in, day out. #datadriven #directcash #povertyalleviation #effectivealtruism
