The Adagin Technologies – Savant partnership has made significant strides during the P4G funding period! Adagin was selected as one of eight companies from South Africa to attend the #Vivatech conference in Paris, where they connected with industry leaders and explored market expansion opportunities. They also attended events and campus visits in the Netherlands to identify potential pilot projects! Finally, Adagin launched a rental model that allows its customers to try its innovative farm management products without the upfront costs! We are thrilled to share the success of the Wesgro Hardware Innovation Showcase! Together with Wesgro, we brought together the Western Cape’s leading innovators and manufacturers to showcase their cutting-edge technologies. JP van der Merwe, Head of Investment Promotion at Wesgro emphasised the exhibition as a testament to the region’s exceptional engineering and science capabilities, underscoring Savant’s impact on the ecosystem. Notably, 10 out of the 11 companies featured in the hardware innovation exhibition were part of Savant’s portfolio. In a remarkable gathering, exhibiting companies included Adagin Technologies, AgriLogiq 🌱, Mushroom Guru (Pty) Ltd, AI Diagnostics, Mia Healthcare, LIQID Medical, Kulu Biofuels, Stroom e-Cargo Bikes, CubeSpace ADCS, Simera Sense and Visiosoft. The showcase was organised into four distinct streams: agritech, telemedicine and diagnostics, the green economy, connectivity and space exploration—spotlighting the region’s innovators shaping these pivotal industries. 🚀 Outcomes: The Hardware Innovation Showcase not only highlighted the exceptional capabilities of the Western Cape’s innovators, but also facilitated a critical convergence of government bodies, industry players, and pioneering inventors. Hardware, which includes physical components and finished products, serves as the backbone of technological innovation. Cape Town and the Western Cape is a key hub for the tech sector, driving significant advancements in this field. At the event, CEO of the technology incubator at Savant, Francois Malan, discussed how their organisation supports, funds, and nurtures hardware technology companies. Savant’s efforts are bolstered by key partners like the SA SME Fund, Industrial Development Corporation, USAID, Small Enterprise Development Agency_gov, and the Anglo American Foundation. Savant’s portfolio spans industries such as agritech, medical devices, space, and connectivity. Startup networking events - Rotterdam edition 🇳🇱 and the first person I bump into is a fellow saffa 🇿🇦 I'm in the Netherlands for a few weeks and had the opportunity to attend the Upstream Festival in Rotterdam yesterday to learn about the dutch startup ecosystem a bit more. All of the local VCs and a few corporates were out in force with speedating tables set up around the main (silent headphone) stage where anyone could drop in for a quick chat. There's plenty of exiting things happening here, and it was fascinating to see how the nature of problems being solved were so different to back in South Africa. Much bigger focus here on circular economy, climate tech and deep tech than I've come across back home 💡 Walking in not knowing anyone in the space or what to expect, it was great to hear the words "South Africa" and "Cape Town" shortly after entering (which caught my attention) and turning to see Jonathan David Naudé, who's also been in town and is doing some super exciting work with Adagin Technologies in the area. I'll be around the NL for the next 3 weeks and would love to be connected with anyone based this side of the world!
