We have the tools to put the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in the history books. This year, we will focus on improving the efficiency of our cleanup operations to achieve this faster. How? Using technology (GPS trackers and drones) and securing new vessels better suited for operations with greater deck space and higher fuel efficiency. Together with AURELIA, we are conducting a feasibility study to identify and analyze propulsion systems that align with The Ocean Cleanup's operational needs while adhering to the highest environmental sustainability standards. Which role do green ammonia and biomethanol play in the transition to zero-emission watetrborne transport. Today, the GAMMA project is in the spotlight as part of our social media campaign "Meet the Projects". Horizon Europe and the Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport are key funding tools to enhance Technology Leadership in the WaterborneTP sector. The GAMMA.EU project involves retrofitting a bulk vessel with an innovative fuel system to generate 1 MW of electric energy. Green ammonia and biomethanol will be bunkered, converted to hydrogen via ammonia cracking and methanol reforming, then purified for use in fuel cells. This hydrogen-powered system will replace fossil-fuel auxiliary generators. Renewable energy, such as solar panels, will partially power hydrogen conversion, further reducing emissions. A beautiful day for Aurelia Green Ship Concept Design team and all consortium partners at the vibrant city of #Athens to start ahead the EU commission project SEASTARS. We’re proud to celebrate the SEASTARS project and its ambitious mission to revolutionize the maritime industry with sustainable innovation.🍀🌍 By targeting a 30% reduction in well-to-wake GHG emissions by 2030 (compared to 2008 levels) and achieving a 20% improvement in energy efficiency (compared to 2022 performance), SEASTARS is setting new benchmarks in maritime design and technology. This visionary project will deliver eight market-ready vessel designs—four retrofits and four new builds—catering to inland, short-sea, and high-seas shipping.
