    It was an honor to discuss #impactinvestment in Africa on the Arleen Westerhof Podcast as part of the European Africa Agenda 2025-2100. Capital infusion is crucial for fostering job creation and business expansion across the African continent. Although there are more and more VC's with an Africa interest, there is still a huge lack of investment. In my opinion, Impact investment is the key to assisting the African continent to solve its own issues of unemployment and poverty. Investing in high-tech startups such as Batazia, an AI language and translation company specializing in African languages, holds immense significance. However, it is equally vital to support grassroots-level enterprises. Recently, I backed a toilet paper distribution startup led by a resilient South African entrepreneur, demonstrating unwavering determination amid challenges. He has been wheel chair bound for over a decade because of an incurable disease, but is determined to regain his dignity by creating an income from something as lowly as toilet paper. So, investing in a potential Unicorn 🦄 such as Batazia is of course great, but investing in this micro business, an Ant 🐜, is equally important. While the allure of investing in potential Unicorns is strong, championing initiatives at all tiers, like the mentioned startup, brings rewarding outcomes. Every business, whether a Unicorn or an Ant, contributes significantly to the economic prosperity and dignity of communities. I take pride in contributing to impactful ventures in Africa.     Language AI for Africa | Business strategy & communication

    If there is one #fullcircle moment for a British-born, Cameroon-blooded, Rotterdammer like myself, it must be this: meeting Mayor Aboutaleb of my city of #Rotterdam. And doing so on his last official work trip in Rotterdam, before formally leaving office. Those who know me, know that every where I go, I make sure to represent my city, my hometown, the place I was bred as an #African in the #diaspora. And now, after all these years, to receive the honor and opportunity to sit down with the 'head' of my city (who is an African himself), and discuss how Batazia is building Translation AI for Africa that will enable people in and beyond the continent to easily navigate through Africa's enormous language diversity - it's just too special. Also hearing about the key areas of change that are closest to his heart during his 15+ year tenure as mayor of Rotterdam just made me warm up to him more. He shared how Rotterdam has elevated in value, education quality, a reduction of homelessness and has become an example of social peace. A city where different cultures, beliefs, and colors can work together in the government #diversity. Hearing this, I can't but help to appreciate him and this beautiful city that he has represented, even more. A big thanks to CIC Rotterdam, and specifically Joyce Kornet-Vreugdenhil for setting this up. It got us reminiscing about where we've come from as locker-neighbours back in secondary school at Emmauscollege. And now being grown, discussing business and our city with the Mayor and his cohort. Emmaus, can you see us now?! I thank God for the doors He has opened, enabled me to walk through, and the tables He has privileged me to sit at, so far through Batazia. I'm greatful, and I think my face on that picture clearly shows it. Menn...     An honour to have met the Mayor of Rotterdam today (Mayor Aboutaleb) at the CIC offices in Rotterdam, to talk about Batazia and our quest to make access to universal knowledge and quality education possible in every African language. Mayor Aboutaleb is one of the smartest men I have met in my life, for his understanding of different disciplines and processes astonished me. Even more remarkable and relatable for almost every African is his journey from Tamazight to Arabic in Morocco just to access formal education, and then to French (to further his education) and later English, Dutch and I don’t know how many other languages. A young boy from the mountains of Morocco who would lift a major European city, Rotterdam, to social peace, educational inclusivity and high physical and cultural value. And to be voted the world's best mayor in 2021. I'm almost questioning myself, seeing this picture.😅 All fun aside, one thing that's certain is that it was a great experience at the Tech in Ghana London conference.
