To #endpoverty, we need unified global action to support large-scale solutions with governments in the driver's seat. Global partnerships such as the Global Alliance Against Poverty and Hunger can bring together civil society, the private sector, and governments for bold action to reach those furthest behind. Through shared resources and expertise, we can address the root causes of poverty and hunger, foster resilience, and create sustainable futures for those living in extreme poverty. By prioritizing inclusive policies and global cooperation, governments can set the pace to #endpoverty at scale. #ICYMI, Heidi McAnnally-Linz shared the importance of global cooperation, government leadership, and support for evidence-based solutions to eradicate poverty at this year's #UNGA79 alongside other key partners from the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. #IDEP2024

Without an approach tailored to the people who are the most marginalised, we will not be able to eradicate poverty. We must act swiftly and design programmes and policies that meet the increasing and evolving needs of people living in extreme poverty - programmes and policies that are comprehensive, adaptive, and immediate but for long-term needs - to build resilience and support sustainable growth. #EndPoverty #PovertyEradication #EradicatePoverty. #brac

“My mother cannot sit still for long. After finishing all the chores at home, she would go out to the market to sell fish. After form four, I started helping her with the ice cream business. I even told her it would be a great idea to target local schools. But she needed to make some investments. She eventually took a loan from BRAC and channeled that into the business. I watched it expand over time while I continued studying. Thanks to my mom, I got to finish school and did not have to resort to selling ice cream for the rest of my life. I have now earned a vocational certificate in electrical engineering and seeking employment. When life is rough, it is often hard to count your blessings but my mother has made sure we get a better chance than she ever did.” Avit’s mother, Jojina, is a client of our microfinance programme. She is one of more than 830,000 people accessing BRAC's microfinance services across Asia and Africa. 96% of our clients are women who make a choice to transform their own lives, and as a result, their families and communities. Throughout this Financial Inclusion Week, we will be sharing stories of why financial inclusion matters, especially for those who are left out of formal banking systems. #FinclusionWeek #fiw24 #brac

"I’m Akiki Susan from Jinja, a mother of three and part of a group of 35 friends who formed a business network. Together, we’re running businesses, saving, and thriving. But it wasn’t always this way. My parents separated when I was young, and I lived with my stepfather during a rebel war. School wasn’t an option, and we had to flee our home many times. I got married young and worked in a factory to get by. Luckily, my husband returned to school and found a job, which helped a lot. Things really turned around when, with encouragement from friends, I went back to farming and joined a BRAC programme. I took a loan of UGX 750,000 (USD 204), which I used to invest in my business. Now, I run a salon, sell clothes and shoes, and work as a mobile money agent." Susan’s story is a powerful reminder of why facilitating women’s access to financial services is essential for building an equitable world. Since expanding microfinance operations globally in 2002, BRAC has more than 830,000 clients across seven countries in Asia and Africa, with 96% being women. Throughout Financial Inclusion Week, we celebrate women like Susan, who exemplify the impact of financial empowerment. When you invest in her, you #PowerHerPotential. #FinclusionWeek #fiw24 #brac

Much of our work is guided by the belief that women and young girls are the catalysts of change. We strive to amplify their voices and support the hopeful futures they envision. This International Day of the Girl Child, we want to share the small and big dreams that the girls we work with imagine for their futures. Let every girl reach her full potential—whether they aspire to be lawyers, journalists, hair stylists, musicians, poets, or anything else they fancy. Let’s ensure they are not deprived of the chance to discover who they could truly be. #GirlsVisionForTheFuture #IDG2024 #BRACInternational #PowerHerPotential #brac

Today is World Mental Health Day and we wanted to take a few minutes to check in with you. Mental wellbeing relates to how we feel and how well we can cope with our everyday lives. Our mental wellbeing can change from day to day, month to month or year to year. It’s important to note that everyone’s journey with their mental health is unique. With everything on our plates, it’s easy to forget to take care of ourselves. However, it’s important to remember that you can’t keep pouring from an empty cup. Your mental wellbeing is important, and taking small steps—like a quick breather or a few minutes to pause—can make all the difference. Remember: taking care of yourself is the best way to show up for others. Children in humanitarian and fragile settings never really get a fair chance at childhood. In our humanitarian play labs, children affected by displacement and conflict get the chance to learn and heal through play. The play leaders—often the children’s first teachers—provide a safe space where they can express themselves and regain a sense of normalcy amidst the turmoil. As the world observed Teachers' Day this week, we too would like to take this opportunity to recognise teachers who have gone above and beyond to ensure children everywhere get the chance to both learn and play. #teachersday #teacher #teachers #brac #PowerHerPotential https://lnkd.in/gxp2ucHY
