    Place-related decisions often involve long-held perceptions. To reinforce or change those, marketing efforts must consider the longevity of campaigns as a critical component. From our deep experience in working with places around the globe, we've seen a tendency by places to favor going big over going long. But to borrow advice from organizational psychologist Adam Grant, "It's not your maximum performance that makes you great, it's your typical performance." A quick one-off campaign may result in big numbers and a rush of interest, but longer term will prove ineffective in changing the narrative without a consistent plan to follow it up. Location decisions aren’t made in 3-day, 3-week or 3-month cycles; they more often involve 3+ year time horizons.     U.S. EDOs, it is time to simplify #FDI. Our new eBook below, developed with our colleagues at Development Counsellors International, has five easy steps to de-complicate FDI marketing. Why is this important? According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, FDI in the U.S. totaled $76B in the first-quarter of 2024, a 31% increase over fourth-quarter 2023. Despite the healthy inflows, FDI marketing gets far less attention within many state and local EDOs, who predominantly direct resources toward domestic targets.
