Over ons

Oceans, seas, lakes and rivers offer growing possibilities in the areas of trade, food, energy and recreation. To ensure global prosperity for next generations and keep the earth habitable with an ever-increasing population, it is essential to utilise and protect these possibilities as efficiently and responsibly as possible. Damen provides unprecedented maritime solutions for this, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. We offer versatile platforms that enable our customers to be successful and that raise the standard in terms of safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability. We want to become the most sustainable shipbuilders in the world. In the previous century, we revolutionized shipbuilding. Thanks to standardisation, we were able to supply our customers with better ships, faster. More than 90 years and 6,500 ships later, the importance of standardisation is only increasing in the light of zero-emissions and digitalisation. We do not build our ships alone, but together with an extensive network from the international maritime cluster. We firmly believe in the power of sharing. It means that we also use our craftsmanship to build platforms on production facilities that are not ours. In this way, through knowledge transfer, we not only contribute to better, safer and more eco-friendly ships, but also to sustainable local development and prosperity. We are a family owned business and stand for fellowship, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and stewardship. Our playing field is the world. Our horizon is the long term. We firmly believe in our team, but also in the strength of the individual. Each colleague is an entrepreneur, focused on ensuring truly satisfied clients and making our contribution to a better world. In every aspect of our business the next generation is our starting point.

  • Where dreams come true! The Disney Dream is the latest Disney cruise ship to call at our Brest repair yard. The 340-metre long vessel underwent a significant scope of work featuring sustainability upgrade, major mechanical works, maintenance of life saving equipment and interior refurbishment – including creation of a new luxury suite of almost 200m2. At 28 days, this is the longest lasting cruise project yet undertaken by the yard. Its completion required no less than 1000 TEU of materials and seven cranes working simultaneously. With precision planning, we completed the job on schedule, to the client’s satisfaction. Later this year, the Disney Fantasy will dock in Brest for a similar scope of work. #Damen #Shiprepair #Disneydream

  • Trading Tuesday! We recently completed the sale of a used Damen Stan Tug 3011, from Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG to Rán Offshore AS in Norway. The 30-metre vessel, with 72 tonnes bollard pull, has all the power she needs for a range of operations including towing, mooring and fire-fighting. The vessel is just one example of the many used vessel sales arranged by Damen Trading - our in-house brokerage business that has sold over 600 vessels since 1986. #Damen #shipbuilding #maritimeindustry

  • Precious cargo coming through! After months of meticulous preparation by the Damen Delivery team, 10 Damen tugs have been successfully loaded onto Mv. UHL Freedom and Mv. UHL Fighter. This complex operation, involving multiple clients and destinations, was carried out smoothly. The tugs loaded on UHL Freedom from Taicang are heading to Guyana, Portland (UK), and Vigo (Spain). From Halong Bay, they are heading to Tanger (Morocco) and Rotterdam (Netherlands). On UHL Fighter, the tugs loaded from Halong Bay are bound for Sète (France), Barcelona (Spain), and Rotterdam (Netherlands). #Damen #transportation #tugs #maritimeindustry

  • Always a pleasure. Father and son duo Tuan Tran Anh and Anh Tran Tuan share a passion for tugs and getting stuck into a challenging project. That’s not the only thing they have in common; both really enjoy their work at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. “There are so many benefits you get at Damen Song Cam that you don’t get at other companies,” says Tuan Tran Anh. “Every day it’s a please being here.” His son agrees, saying, “I will stay at the yard for as long as possible.” #Damen #family #colleagues #maritime

  • Keeping good company. We delivered the Bad Company Yacht Support Vessel 4508 to her owner back in 2019. In October last year, we welcomed her back to Damen. The vessel arrived at our Gorinchem yard, initially for a standard five-year inspection. Instead, over a period of sixteen weeks, Bad Company underwent a stunning refit – an upgrade that surpassed all expectations. #Damen #services #shipbuilding

  • Clean & green. Last month, Dunkerque Shiprepair yard completed the hull cleaning of Irish Ferries’ vessel James Joyce – at 186 x 27,7 metres. The successful project was carried out using the Dunkerque yard’s innovative, and optimally efficient, ROV cleaning process – the first of its kind in France. The advanced cleaning method provides a considerable boost to the vessel’s performance and significantly improves fuel efficiency, resulting in lower costs and a reduced environmental footprint. We appreciate Irish Ferries for their ongoing support and partnership. We look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future. #Damen #shiprepair #maritimeindustry

  • Can you see her teeth? This is the RSS Barracuda during her recent trials. The vessel is being deployed with the Suriname military, where she will protect merchant shipping from piracy, as well as providing security for offshore infrastructure and fishing grounds. RSS Barracuda is a Damen Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 4008 Patrol – a highly versatile vessel. Her Sea Axe hull enables her to cut effortlessly through the water with minimal slamming, enabling optimal seakeeping performance at high speeds, in all waters, lowering resistance and maximising efficiency. #Damen #shipbuilding #maritimeindustry

  • How is your weekend? 💙 We had a very special day today when we welcomed Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Orange to our yard in Vlissingen, in the south-west of the Netherlands. The Princess was there to perform the christening ceremony of the new Combat Support Ship (CSS) Den Helder that we are building for the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN). The vessel forms part of the navy’s ambitious fleet renewal programme. She will operate alongside the HNLMS Karel Doorman, the Joint Support Ship (JSS) that we delivered in 2015. The CSS Den Helder will restore the RNLN’s maritime supply capacity, playing a crucial role in enabling Dutch naval capabilities in the coming years. #Damen #naval #princess #ceremony
