As I sit down to pen this blog, my heart is whole, brimming with emotions and memories from the inaugural summit of the Global Listening Movement. It was not just an event but a symphony of human connection, a celebration of the art of listening, and a journey into the depths of empathy and understanding.
From the moment we gathered at De Ruimte, an oasis of tranquility and warmth, it was clear that this summit would be extraordinary. People from eight countries, each carrying their unique stories, came together under one roof, united by a common purpose – to listen, share, and grow.
Laughter echoed through the halls as we shared light moments, and tears were shed as we delved deeper into our vulnerabilities. Walking together and eating together, we weren't just sharing physical spaces but pieces of ourselves. Each story, whether it elicited laughter or tears, became a thread in the beautiful tapestry of our collective experience.
What made this summit truly special was the creation of a safe space. A space where silence was respected as much as words, where being openhearted wasn't just encouraged but celebrated. This environment fostered co-creation, access to deep insights, and fun – yes, fun! Because empathy doesn't always have to be somber; it can be joyous and uplifting.
Opening up to strangers (because most of us had never met before) is challenging, but at the summit, it felt natural. Conversations flowed effortlessly, hearts opened, and in showing our vulnerabilities, we saw our shared humanity. We learned from each other, grew with each other, and practiced the art of listening – not just to respond but to get the best possible understanding to be there for one another.
A special thanks to De Ruimte in #Breda. More than just a venue, it was a cocoon that nurtured our conversations and thoughts. The food – oh, the food! It catered to every taste and every preference, reminding us that care and attention to detail can elevate an experience from good to sublime.
This journey wouldn't have been possible without the attendees of this summit: Jane Adshead-Grant, Doris Leibold, Prof. Dr. Petra Kipfelsberger, Lionel Pailloncy, Martin Lacroix, James Cook, Adi Y. Segal, Alexandra Perl Marjoleine van Sinderen - Beugelsdijk, Yael v. Assendelft, Katrine Adair, and Avi Kluger. Each brought their unique energy and insights, creating a mosaic of perspectives and wisdom.
If there's one thing this summit reinforced, it is that listening is a choice – a profound one. It's choosing to be present, empathetic, and there for the Other. And in that choice, we find connection, understanding, and love.
As we parted ways, we knew we were not saying goodbye but 'see you later'. This summit wasn't just an event but the start of a continuous journey. We left with a renewed commitment to improving this world, one listening ear at a time.
THANK YOU!
