In our new instalment of the #FuelFlexible series, let's talk about ethanol—a renewable biofuel that is recognized as a viable alternative energy source. It is produced from both first-generation feedstocks (like corn) and second-generation feedstocks (like wood or crop residues), which could otherwise go to waste. That would also mean missing out on the opportunity to use ethanol as a greener power source in the transportation, agriculture, and energy sectors. While discussing #FuelFlexible, we cannot ignore those sources that can be dangerous for humans and the environment, such as contaminated associated gases produced by oil and gas operations. While serving as a source of energy, these gases often contain Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S), which is toxic, poisonous, highly flammable, and corrosive. Utilizing these gases for power generation is challenging due to their negative impact on equipment and durability. The good news is that the OP16 Gas Turbine is resistant to contaminants and can tolerate these challenging gases, directly generating clean electricity without the need for cleaning.
