Open Source in Energy Access
Over ons
EnAccess supports the development and maintenance of Open Source products for the Energy Access sector in different ways, all depending on the scope of the idea. We can fund project costs directly in certain cases, for example, projects that are ready to be built and prototyped in a real environment. If you are seeking funding for an Open Source project that can benefit the Energy Access sector, you can submit a letter of interest via our website. We offer technical assistance for Open Source Software, Hardware, and other sorts of toolkits that can be used by the Energy Access sector. EnAccess offers project certification. This means we can review and ensure the quality of a project and its documentation, host it in our Open Source library, and help create a community around it. Do you have another idea about how to collaborate with us? Send us a message, we’d like to hear from you.

Open Source is ALL About Community! At EnAccess, we're passionate about the collaborative spirit of open source. It's not just about amazing software and tools – it's about the incredible people and community who use, build, maintain, and grow these tools together. During our recent webinar with our partner Solaris Offgrid, we discussed the newest release in the OpenPAYGO ecosystem: the OpenPAYGO Pass. This project allows end-users to make payments or repayments for Paygo products and services seamlessly at the last mile. We also discussed the importance and power of the Open Source community as such. The report from the groundbreaking inaugural Open Source in Energy Access Symposium (OSEAS), hosted by The EnAccess Foundation and World Resources Institute is now available - https://rb.gy/4lchpe. Dive into the vibrant highlights of four days filled with dynamic discussions, innovative ideas, and impactful collaboration. The report includes these 10 recommendations: ➡ Leverage open-source platforms like the Global Electrification Platform for cost-effective, standardized geospatial analysis in electrification planning. ➡ Develop training programs to build capacity among energy professionals in developing countries for using open-source tools in energy planning. ➡ Form partnerships with universities, research organizations, and stakeholders to develop and implement open-source solutions and replicate successful models. ➡ Engage end-users, such as health and education ministries, in planning to ensure solutions align with local needs and priorities. ➡ Ensure open-source tools are transparent, publicly available, and user-friendly, with adequate training and support. ➡ Increase funding for R&D in high-capacity, affordable battery technologies, focusing on both fundamental research and applied innovation. ➡ Foster international collaboration for technology transfer, best practices sharing, and learning from global renewable energy projects to speed up the energy transition. ➡ Enhance women's participation in technology design, testing, and maintenance, involving them as active contributors. ➡ Invest in capacity-building to raise awareness of funding sources and improve data management for reliable investor engagement. ➡ Define roles and responsibilities in data governance and promote collaboration among stakeholders for effective data management. Great opportunity to be trained.
📣 Prospect is looking for IT customer service experts to join its 'Women in Tech / in-country consultant' programme! Prospect aims to build a pool of in-country customer support experts that can advise users of the data platform. The current call is to identify and train a pipeline of up to 10 trainees on the use of Prospect through an all-expenses paid, in-person initial training. Candidates will be supported with paid on-the-job training on onboarding and advising users of the platform. As trained in-country consultants, trainees will be better equipped in setting up their own commercial services around the use of the free and open-source platform #Prospect. This opportunity is a step towards bridging the gender gap in the tech industry and enhancing #EnergyAccess across Africa. By participating in this initiative, trainees will not only be investing in their individual growth, but also contributing to the broader development of the African #tech industry. https://prospect.energy/ is the only #opensource based platform that automatically collects, harmonises, aggregates, analyses and displays #data from any modern, sustainable energy solution that contributes to energy access. It is being developed by the Access to Energy Institute and GET.invest with support from the European Union, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Austria. #DataDrivingEnergyAccess #GreenJobs #GreenEconomy #training #WomenInTech #SDG7 #SDG13 More on the opportunity ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gs--JpHX

We are excited to share highlights from the first ever Open Source in Energy Access Symposium organized by The EnAccess Foundation and World Resources Institute. The Symposium brought together energy access practitioners, open source developers, researchers, and donors to share lessons and explore how open source can be leveraged to improve energy access where it is most needed. 💡 Some takeaways from the symposium: ➡ Encourage and support initiatives that promote open access to knowledge and technology, particularly in renewable energy and battery development. This includes funding open-access research projects, creating open-access repositories for data and research findings, and facilitating knowledge-sharing among researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers. ➡ Foster collaboration among stakeholders in the energy access sector, especially between data providers, users, product developers, and regulatory bodies. Create a shared vision and promote collaboration through capacity building and incentivization. ➡ Explore the interplay between open-source and proprietary solutions. Use open-source solutions where possible but be willing to utilize intellectual property when necessary to fill gaps in functionality or service provision. ➡ Consider women's needs and perspectives when designing energy access solutions. Advocate for gender-inclusive design teams and educational initiatives to promote girls' participation in STEM fields. ➡ Develop tailored data management infrastructure that meets the needs of various users, including governments, investors, and developers. Ensure flexibility, scalability, and compatibility with existing systems. Document metadata and ensure validation of available data.
