180.Works “IoT metered Fuel-Efficient Cookstoves in Malawi” – found through FactZero Carbon Project Finder Climate change is undeniable and requires immediate action. This urgency drove Martijn Hekman to establish 180.WORKS, based in The Netherlands and Malawi, in 2020. 180.WORKS focuses on providing fuel-efficient cookstoves in Africa, aiming to preserve and regenerate local forests by reducing the demand for firewood for cooking by almost 70%. To lead the deployment from the front, Martijn and his family relocated to Malawi in 2022—one of the poorest countries in the world but with great potential to restore parts of the world’s wild forests. By making a personal impact, they made their mission tangible. The introduction of cookstoves has the immediate effect of reducing the need for firewood, thus decreasing deforestation. Significant investments are necessary to realize this vision. However, investors require transparency on carbon offset impacts. Martijn and his team have developed a groundbreaking technological solution: each cookstove is equipped with an IoT temperature sensor that measures daily usage. This provides independent, accurate, and timely insights into the effectiveness of the cookstoves. This transparent "proof of impact" builds trust in the project, enabling the attraction of more investments, and ultimately helping more people. Great start of the year – FactZero Q1 Update  I never would have guessed how exciting starting up your own ESG data company can be! Over the past 3 months we had the opportunity to meet so many fascinating people, full of great ideas & energy, all working towards the same goal: creating a sustainable future faster.
