Read the latest publication by Marijem Djosetro and Bas Arts about Polycentric Governance in Suriname's Nature Conservation! 🏞️ This paper examines the complex interactions between multi-level governance systems in the conservation of migratory species in Suriname. Through comprehensive case studies in the Bigi Pan and the Galibi Nature Reserve, the research highlights the crucial role that connections between international NGOs, national governments, and local communities play in achieving effective conservation goals. Despite the challenges posed by reliance on donor funding, the findings underscore the importance of collaboration across governance levels to ensure enduring and legitimate conservation outcomes. 💡 In this study, three key lessons are drawn for enhancing polycentric conservation efforts in the global South: 1) securing structural funding beyond donor resources is essential; 2) building robust institutions can support sustained collective action at the local level; 3) a holistic social-ecological approach is needed to achieve genuine conservation success. 👉 Read the full article here and discover how polycentric governance can transform conservation efforts globally! https://lnkd.in/ea7cam4H

🌿 Find here the latest publication by Arjen Buijs and colleagues on improving uptake of Nature-based Solutions into urban development practice! 🏙 The paper sheds light on the integration of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in urban areas across Europe and Latin America. While NbS holds promise for creating sustainable and climate-resilient cities, effective implementation faces challenges. This research highlights the crucial role of governance and monitoring & assessment (M&A) processes in improving NbS adoption. It finds that M&A can enhance political commitment and collaborative efforts, and that there's an untapped potential in collaborating with non-governmental actors to contribute to these processes. 🤝 This study emphasizes the necessity of engaging civil society in M&A, fostering awareness and participation in these processes. By considering the different socio-economic and cultural contexts of European and Latin America cities, a wider range of practitioners’ experiences in different governance settings is included. These insights offer valuable perspectives for practitioners aiming to advance NbS implementation and unlock the potential of NbS in shaping sustainable urban futures. 👉 Find the article here: https://lnkd.in/eEGazzUG
🚰 Read the recent publication by Maria Tengö and colleagues about knowledge co-production for addressing water governance challenges on the island of Öland, Sweden! 🌍 This study explores how to design a dialogue-driven process for different actors to collaboratively tackle sustainability challenges. By using systems, target, and operational knowledge as a framework, the researchers organized workshops with local stakeholders on Öland, Sweden, as a case study. Participants were encouraged to view a complex issue from various perspectives and consider their own values and knowledge. The process led to the creation of four strategies to enhance climate change adaptation efforts. The study highlights how bringing together different types of knowledge through dialogue fosters collective action and promotes inclusive and equitable solutions to sustainability problems. 👉 Find the paper here: https://lnkd.in/eFA8YaYU

🌾 MSc thesis student Ilja Bouwknegt wrote a beautiful blog about her motivation to research farmer's perspectives on nature restoration policies in the Dutch countryside. Find the blog below!
This September I started my MSc thesis at the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group. I was asked to write something about my research process as a student for a blog post, online now. I've always been fascinated by the Dutch farmers movement and how it relates to nature conservation -- this blog details my personal background as to why.
