For decades, the Yezidi community in Iraq has faced deep-rooted marginalization, compounded by conflict and displacement. Today, many Yezidis continue to struggle with poverty, lacking access to basic resources that are essential for rebuilding their lives. Post-conflict displacement has left thousands without stable homes, jobs, or adequate civic services. To sustainably uplift Yezidis and empower them to break free from the cycle of poverty, it is crucial that displaced and returnee families have access to long-term housing, meaningful job opportunities, and essential services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure. On this day, we renew our commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind. Today, we highlight the urgent need for food security and sustainable/regenerative agriculture practices in Iraq, where the Yezidi community and other vulnerable groups are deeply affected by the devastating impacts of climate change. Extreme weather patterns, water scarcity, and rising temperatures are threatening the livelihoods of farmers and the availability of food for many. For communities already struggling to recover from conflict and displacement, the added pressure of climate change is making it harder to access nutritious and affordable food. On this World Mental Health Day, we’re spotlighting the incredible work of the FYF Protection Team, who are dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health care to vulnerable community members. Through individual and group therapy, case management, and recreational activities like trauma recovery yoga and arts and crafts, our team helps survivors of genocide, conflict-related sexual violence, and domestic violence heal and thrive. We also offer psychoeducation sessions and raise mental health awareness to break down stigmas around seeking care. Our work doesn’t stop there. We conduct rights awareness sessions, engage men in anger management and positive masculinity workshops, and deliver life-saving prevention sessions on SGBV and child marriage. After years of brutal enslavement in Gaza, a #Yezidi girl has been rescued and reunited with her family in Iraq. Kidnapped at the age of 11, her story is just one among many. Thousands of Yezidi women and girls remain enslaved by ISIS and extremist groups across the Middle East, with over 2,600 still unaccounted for. #SaveYezidiWomen #YezidiGenocide

Next week, from October 6-13, Yezidis will gather at the sacred Lalish Temple to celebrate Jama Feast, one of the oldest and most cherished Yezidi holidays. This week-long celebration unites Yezidis from around the world, featuring special rituals, festive meals, and traditional religious dances. After being paused for years following the tragic Yezidi Genocide in 2014, Jama resumed in 2018, symbolizing the resilience and enduring spirit of the Yezidi community.
