Today is National Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Day in the UK 💙 Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) play a vital role in cancer care, providing expert guidance, advocacy, and compassion to patients navigating their diagnosis. They are, in short, an essential source of support for many patients experiencing cancer. Today, Pal recognises and celebrates all of the amazing CNSs who provide and support patients navigating a cancer diagnosis. Want to join us in celebrating these amazing individuals? This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the millions of women caring for loved ones facing life-limiting illnesses. Serious illness is unpredictable. Complications can escalate quickly, and families are often left unsure of what to do next. In serious illness, intuition matters. But not just your doctor’s. We see examples of this all the time in the Pal app. A family member logs a symptom or makes an observation that, at first, doesn't seem like a big deal. They just have a feeling. Something is different, or new, or there's something they can't quite put their finger on. They just have a feeling. Family members are often the first to see even the smallest of changes in their loved one, but they don't always know what it means, what to look out for next, or how to explain it to their healthcare team. The examples are endless: ➡️ Lower leg swelling that turns out to be a blood clot ➡️ Someone sleeping more, forgetting details from yesterday. Turns out that the cancer has spread to the brain ➡️ A poor appetite that’s not just loss of interest in food, but a feeling of fullness caused by bowel obstruction Family members spot these signs first. But even with a life-limiting illness, people wait. They hold off calling the doctor until they’re sure, until things are worse. I've done the same. By then, the consequences can be serious. But what if we could change that? We need to find ways to listen to patients and families sooner, but without adding pressure to already stretched healthcare teams, and without drowning in unnecessary details. That’s exactly what we’ve built at Pal. If you want to see how Pal | Digital Supportive Care can help you quickly spot the right observations from your patients and their families, I'd love to tell you more. #healthtech #supportivecare #cancer #oncology #digitalhealth #palliativecare

So excited to finally share this news: Together with Blüm Health, we have won a Eureka Eurostars grant to develop Pal-PCS, an AI system for detecting complications in people with life-limiting illnesses before they become emergencies. Building upon the existing Pal family-facing app, Pal-PCS combines patient- and family-reported data with leading clinical guidelines and medical expertise to generate real-time risk assessments. As Medical Advisor to Pal-PCS, Vinnie Nambisan says “We often see patients in the hospital with complications that could have been prevented if we had earlier insight into what was happening at home. Pal-PCS changes that. It alerts us to warning signs earlier, allowing us to take timely action and keep patients out of the hospital whenever possible.” We cannot wait to see the difference this will make to people with life-limiting illnesses, their caregivers, and healthcare teams. More in the press release: http://bit.ly/3Qwkyjz The Pal-PCS project has received funding from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and Innovate UK through the Eureka Network and the Eurostars programme, which is co-funded by the European Commission as part of the European Partnership on Innovative SMEs.
