  • 🌴 Who Really Benefits? How REDD+ Fails Forests and Those Who Protect Them In this briefing from the Global Forest Coalition (GFC), launched at the UN Climate Change Conference (SB60) in Bonn, we unravel the confusions, contradictions and inherent issues with the REDD+ program. 🪵🔥 Time is running out: we are losing our forests at alarming rates. We need rights-based, community-driven forest protection. Indigenous land rights, actually stopping deforestation, and prioritizing true forest restoration and biodiversity over profit-driven false solutions is mandatory. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e8Ha-X78 #COP29 #COP16 #REDD #ClimateFinance #ClimateChange

[ES 👇🏿] ❓Will COP16 on Biodiversity Listen to Indigenous Women or Corporate Lobbyists? "In a world increasingly dominated by patriarchal extractivist colonialism, the resistance, collective actions and victories of our Indigenous communities offer a beacon of hope. For those engaged in eco-feminist, environmentalist, human rights and climate justice movements, centering the defence of life and territories in our struggles has never been more urgent. Listening to the voices of these guardians of nature is crucial if we are to prevent biodiversity loss from reaching a point of no return." 🌿 As COP16 is underway in Cali, Colombia, we must constantly remind decision makers that those who are protecting our biodiversity globally are Indigenous Peoples, especially women, and not corporations. We cannot afford to ignore them. • ⚠️ Tourism often comes with a heavy price for Indigenous communities and ecosystems. 🌍 The Maasai in East Africa have faced displacement, cultural commodification, and environmental degradation from tourism developments on their ancestral lands. This new research paper unravels how mass tourism—under the mask of "ecotourism" and conservation—undermines the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) globally. "The fate of the Maasai community illustrates how protected areas and so-called ecotourism can deny Indigenous Peoples access to traditional knowledge, lands, and forests—the essential assets that underpin their livelihoods, health, and identities. This economic, political, and cultural marginalization creates social separation that can erode Indigenous societies." 🔗 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eJNPiQz6 #EcoTourism #Tourism #Indigenous #Maasai
