IMPROVING BURN CARE WORLDWIDE   It is world burns week. This is an international collaboration to reduce global inequality in burns. This means our timing for the current burn camp with Global Surgery Amsterdam and Dokters van de Wereld Nederland in Haydom Lutheran Hospital in Tanzania is perfect. These camps are essential to improve surgical care, but only if (complex) surgery is combined with training and exchanging knowledge with a longterm view.    Today was a special day since we started the first Train the Trainer course by Emanuel Nuwass, Charissa Rahmee and Matthijs Botman where Tanzanian and Dutch doctors and nurses got together to improve their skills in teaching. It is unique to have this training with this focus and in this setting and it will be a multi-year project. New knowledge may be used straight away during the Basics of Burn Care and Basics of Anesthesia course that we will be running next week to train 30 healthy care workers from the area.  This all would be impossible without the contributions from the local team and support of Amsterdam UMC. 🌟 Meet Our Course Faculty 🌟 Severe injuries from road accidents, especially involving motorbikes, are rapidly increasing in Tanzania. Yet, too often, patients struggle to access the specialized hospital care they need. We’re happy to introduce the dedicated faculty leading our Basics of Open Fractures course! These experts bring trauma care experience from Tanzania’s largest hospitals. Together, we’re working to enhance trauma care across the region - by supporting doctors, nurses, physios, and even traditional bonesetters. Ready to depart from Arusha to Haydom Lutheran Hospital Tanzania It’s World Burns Week to raise awareness for burn victims. Most of the severe burn injuries occur in low and middle income countries. Children are at risk. Cooking on open fire is the most common cause. In Haydom, we are going to provide the first official Train the Trainer course tomorrow. Day 1 of the Basics of Open Fracture course in Tanzania done. After the success of last year’s training, Shirati Hospital invited us back to continue advancing trauma care skills. This inclusive course brings together doctors, nurses, physios, and even traditional bonesetters from the region, working as a team to improve outcomes for patients. 🌍🔥 Celebrating the Success of the First Basics of Burn Care (BoBC) Course in South Africa 🔥🌍 From October 1-3, we had the incredible opportunity to host the first-ever BoBC course in Butterworth, South Africa, focusing on medical doctors working in district hospitals across the Eastern Cape. This three-day course provided a comprehensive yet practical approach to burn care, with to-the-point lectures, team-based learning sessions with clinical cases, and hands-on practical training. Topics ranged from calculating TBSA and resuscitation to burn depth assessment, sepsis management, analgesia, and even palliative care. The engagement and dedication of the participants were truly inspiring. It’s been an honor to collaborate with such a motivated group of South African medical professionals, working together to address the pressing need for adequate burn care in this region. A huge thank you to our incredible team and everyone who made this event possible! And of course, congratulations to all our delegates for their outstanding participation and commitment.
