Over ons

Herburg Roses Plc is established in 2006 in Ziway, Ethiopia at the Sher Ethiopia project. We started our first greenhouse in 2006 with 18 hectare of rose production. In 2008 we expanded our operation to a total of 40 hectare. All cut flower roses. We are now at the position of being in full production, which means an average 2 million rose stems per week, over a 100 million roses per year. Last year we found ourselves being at the top 4 of biggest exporting companies in the Horticultural industry in Ethiopia. Our management team has both Dutch and Ethiopian members being responsible for the daily process of this multi million operation. At our production facility 1150 inhabitants of Ziway are employed by Herburg Roses and have an income to support an estimated 4500+ family members with their income. We live up to high social standards at our company. We have for example an own nurse employed for all first aid needs. She works in close cooperation with the Sher Ethiopia Hospital which is located at our compound. Herburg Roses is also shareholder of the Sher Ethiopia Hospital where all our employees can use the maternity facilities, medicines and also an Aids/HIV clinic is housed in the hospital. Shaping the Future of Ethiopian Exports: National Phytosanitary Conference Held in Addis Ababa A successful National Phytosanitary Conference, themed "Shaping Present and Future Directions," took place today at the Haile Grand Hotel in Addis Ababa. The event, co-organized by the Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) and the Ethiopian Agricultural Authority (EAA), addressed critical phytosanitary concerns impacting Ethiopia's major exports, including coffee, cut flowers, and cuttings. The conference highlighted the importance of implementing International Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs) to ensure national and global food security, facilitate safe trade, and protect the environment. H.E. Ambassador Deriba Kuma stressed the need for collaboration and cooperation in establishing a robust national phytosanitary system urging active participation from all stakeholders. Mr. Wondale Habtamu, the NPPO, delivered a keynote address on the technical aspects of phytosanitary measures and their role in international trade, plant resource protection, biodiversity, and Ethiopia's ecosystem underlining the evolving requirements of importing countries. Mr. Tewodros Zewdie, Executive Director of EHPEA, echoed the importance of collaboration between regulatory bodies, private sectors, and various stakeholders to implement international plant health standards. He also highlighted joint efforts by EAA, EHPEA, and others to bolster capacity in phytosanitary compliance, resulting in a significant reduction of False Codling Moth (FCM) interceptions, a major concern for European plant health regulations. The event featured insightful presentations by subject matter experts on; EU plant health regulations, Emerging phytosanitary trends and their implications for East African countries, Challenges of False Codling Moth, as well as The role of public and private sectors in smooth export trade. This vital conference paves the way for a more secure and sustainable future for Ethiopia's export industry.

𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝘂𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 🌡💐 Across their long journey from farm to florist, flowers need to be kept at the right temperature to maintain high vase life and quality. In today’s freight environment of high volumes and time constraints, vacuum coolers stand out as an ideal solution. By employing vacuum cooling both at departure and on arrival, a method known as 'double vacuum cooling', flowers are made cool, kept cool and, if necessary, recooled throughout the entire shipment process. This method is rapidly gaining popularity, enabling supply chains to operate smoothly, whether during a normal week or around peak season. The need for a proactive approach to cold chain management is clear: “We have recently been seeing a decline in cold chain performance,” says our Founder and CEO, Jeroen van der Hulst. Van der Hulst continues: ‘With uncertain logistics leading to longer clearing times, as seen at Liège airport, for example, followed by extra transport measures and mismanaged processes, flowers are spending more time on pallets. This allows them to continue self-heating, resulting in a major temperature rise. In some cases with European retailers, we have seen flower temperatures hit 25-30°C - as opposed to the 0-2°C at which they are best kept fresh.’ By implementing double vacuum cooling solutions, as we do with our Certified Partner Weber Vacuum Cooling, you can ensure that your flowers are kept cool across the supply chain. We applaud the frontrunners of double vacuum cooling, and suggest players explore it before 2024’s peak season. Discover this year how the ‘make cool, keep cool, and, if necessary, re-cool’ approach can work for your supply chain. Ready to realise the value of double vacuum cooling?
