🚀 In a rarely seen fusion of technology and design, Carbyon, a scale-up based here at HTCE, developed cutting-edge direct air capture (DAC) technology and partnered with four designers to reimagine the appearance and functionality of its CO₂-capturing machines. Beatrix Bos, project manager and impact creator at Carbyon, had a conversation with the designers and highlighted how design can shape public perception and contribute to the global fight against climate change. Designers presented their concepts, with the goal to make these machines efficient and visually captivating. Carbyon partnered with the Dutch Design Foundation to engage the four designers with diverse perspectives, each tackling the challenge of designing a machine that captures carbon directly from the air. The designs were on display during Dutch Design Week. ♻ Joris Zandbergen presented a concept called Airscapes. His vision was to expose the internal processes of CO₂ removal, making the invisible visible. ♻ Yotam Sion drew inspiration from iconic structures like water towers for his design, naming his concept Air Tower. ♻ Lotte Wigman approached the project from an ecological perspective. Her design, AquaTerra Oasis, envisioned the machines contributing to local ecosystems, particularly in arid environments like deserts. ♻ Joshua Holetz took a different approach, focusing on how the machines could blend into their surroundings. His design was inspired by organic forms found in nature, such as the armadillo’s shell or the structure of a lobster. 🙌 Congrats to 3EALITY on its official opening this week! HTCE’s newest innovation hub hosted a full house on Wednesday, which included entrepreneurs, investors, partners and Campus residents. HTCE CEO Otto van den Boogaard welcomed the crowd, explaining the innovation hub’s mission: “We’re turning tech into businesses … we want to see small companies grow into big companies.” Also there to welcome guests was Philipp Werle, Innovation Manager at HTCE. Jan Scheele introduced him, saying he’s “a gamer to the bone,” a guy who used to overclock a server with an old NVIDIA GPU using fans to keep it cool. 🎮 Philipp then rose and said, “the most important thing about that story is it’s true.” 💯 🚀 The afternoon included a keynote address and two panel discussions.
