There is no reason not to create experimentation and scaling space for new and better approaches to deliver justice services to people and SMEs. In Nigeria, the justice gap is not static—it grows and contracts over time. Our research shows that 184 million legal problems occur annually in Nigeria, and 67 million remain unresolved. Even when people find resolutions, some issues, like #LandDisputes, #DomesticViolence, and #NeighborConflicts, are likely to resurface. ✍️ Our study tracked individuals over three years, revealing that 19% of resolved problems re-emerged, often evolving into new issues. For example, a land dispute might lead to family conflicts, making it clear that we need durable solutions that address the root causes of these legal challenges. What’s striking is that 50% of Nigerians seek informal, amicable solutions with family, friends, or community leaders, while only 1% take their cases to court. This highlights the need for a people-centred justice strategy that prioritizes fast, fair resolutions through mediation and community-based approaches 🤝 Building a more just and inclusive society under #SDG16 means closing this justice gap.
