🔁 Biotech maakt het leven beter – én circulair! Hollandbio gelooft sterk in de bijdrage van slimme oplossingen aan een circulaire economie. Denk aan plastics zonder fossiele grondstoffen, verpakkingsmateriaal op basis van schimmels of eiwitten gemaakt uit broeikasgassen. Als we samen de wereld mooi willen overdragen aan de volgende generaties, is biotech onderdeel van de oplossing.  💚 Tijdens de Week van de Circulaire Economie geven we daarom graag een shout-out naar Lori Goff van Outlander Materials. Deze biotechnoloog transformeert laagwaardige reststromen uit de voedselproductie tot innovatieve non-plastic materialen. 🚀 Het is gelukt! Afgelopen vrijdag hebben de Europese lidstaten een akkoord bereikt over hun positie ten opzichte van het New Genomic Techniques (NGT)-voorstel. Dat betekent dat de onderhandelingen tussen de Europese Commissie, het Europees Parlement en de lidstaten eindelijk van start kunnen gaan. Dankzij een sterke Nederlandse inzet is de positie van de lidstaten relatief gunstig voor biotech – het maximaal haalbare uit de onderhandelingen. 💪 Hollandbio maakte zich hier hard voor en blijft zich inzetten voor een innovatievriendelijk beleid. De COGEM - Commissie Genetische Modificatie stelt in een nieuw rapport dat de huidige biotech wet- en regelgeving niet meer volstaat en gewenste innovaties onnodig vertraagt. 🔬 Hollandbio heeft bijgedragen aan dit onderzoek en benadrukt de urgentie van een fundamentele verandering in de manier waarop biotechnologie wordt gereguleerd. 🚀 We staan klaar om samen met beleidsmakers te werken aan wetgeving die innovatie ondersteunt en de positie van Nederland als koploper in biotechnologie behoudt. 🚀 The Dutch Life Sciences Trend Analysis 2025 is here! The latest Biotechgate Trend Analysis Report 2025, published by Biotechgate, reveals a mixed landscape for the Dutch life sciences sector. While venture financing grew by 10% in 2024, with companies like Citryll, iOnctura, Cradle.bio, and VICO Therapeutics B.V. each securing over $50 million, the number of new biotech startups has declined from 48 in 2018 to just 12 in 2024. This "winner-takes-all" effect is evident globally, emphasizing the need for a supportive ecosystem to nurture emerging biotech innovators. Annemiek Verkamman, Managing Director at hollandbio, emphasizes the importance of nurturing new companies to fully realize biotech's potential: "We must take the decline in new company formation seriously. We need new companies to emerge constantly to realize the full potential of biotech. Tomorrow’s game changers are often today’s start-ups." VWS-minister Fleur Agema heeft antwoord gegeven op Kamervragen over de subsidie voor het UMCG voor de ontwikkeling van een celtherapie. Deze vragen werden onlangs gesteld door Tweede Kamerlid Mariska Rikkers-Oosterkamp. Hollandbio is blij met de erkenning voor onze zienswijze en zorgen die spreekt uit de antwoorden van de minister. De minister geeft aan dat zij in gesprek gaat met het Zorginstituut over de vraag of de subsidievoorwaarden en -verlening van de regeling Veelbelovende Zorg wel overeenkomen met de bredere beleidsinzet van de overheid op innovatieve geneesmiddelen. Tegelijkertijd verwacht hollandbio dat de minister en haar ministerie ook kleur bekennen over deze specifieke casus. In hoeverre vindt de minister dat hier bijvoorbeeld sprake is van marktfalen? En hoe kijkt de minister naar de ethische bezwaren die wij zien bij deze subsidie? We kijken daarom met grote interesse uit naar het vervolg: het nadere onderzoek dat de minister en haar ministerie gaan doen naar de subsidieregeling en deze casus in het bijzonder, en naar het uitsluitsel dat de minister de Tweede Kamer op korte termijn toezegde.
