The Future of Cyber Insurance for SMEs: What You Need to Know As cyber threats skyrocket, so do cyber insurance premiums. The latest report by Marsh shows a massive shift—SMEs are facing rising costs for protection against ransomware and data breaches. Why? Insurers are adjusting to the surge in claims, and fewer companies are paying up in ransomware attacks, thanks to stronger backups and resilience strategies. Here’s the kicker: If SMEs want to avoid premium hikes, they need to seriously up their cybersecurity game. Implementing robust security measures, training employees to spot phishing scams, and demonstrating lower risk to insurers will be key. Cyber insurance isn’t just a “nice-to-have” anymore—it’s a business essential. The question is: Are you ready to pay the price, or will you invest in staying ahead of the threats? Insiber.com we suggest you take the route of being in CyberControl... You can find the full report here Marsh https://lnkd.in/eYRXmE6z Thank you Gregory Van den Top for sharing. #cybersecurity #SMEs #insurance #ransomware #cyberresilience

Insiber.com was privileged to be part of the 25-year celebration of Hiscox Nederland. We fully align with the principles shared by Robert Dietrich during the event, reflecting the timeless values established by Robert Hiscox. Robert Hiscox’s enduring message resonates with us: “You can lose my money, but never my reputation. This is my name on the door.” This focus on integrity and long-term thinking has shaped Hiscox’s success. Building for the future, not for short-term gains, makes all the difference. As Robert Dietrich noted, the insurance industry’s purpose is to provide security, allowing clients to concentrate on their business and passions. This mission hasn’t changed in 25 years, and it continues to drive Hiscox forward. At Insiber.com, we fully embrace this purpose of providing security—in our case, cybersecurity. We also work closely with partners like Hiscox to build the right ecosystems for our clients. While technology and data are crucial, we believe people make the difference where it truly matters. Thank you mr. Yasin Chalabi and Edwin Oud for the invitation to this wonderful celebration at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and may the future be bright in securing against risk.

Key takeaways from the Dutch Security Day 2024 event: A) Cybersecurity remains a tough challenge, especially for SMEs. A panel of experts, including Erik Westhovens Joepke van der Linden and Rick van der Kleij , explained how cyber threats are becoming more frequent and sophisticated daily. On top of this, new regulations like NIS2 will add legal and administrative burdens. Vincent van Dijk MSc offered valuable advice: "Identify your key business risks and prioritize those when implementing cybersecurity measures." This is where Insiber.com steps in, providing a platform to manage cybersecurity needs, including compliance and insurance requirements. B) The human impact of a cyber incident is immense, as shared by Bart Lageweg CEO of BizzWay, who recounted a real-world incident within his organization: "As an MSP, we spend our days onboarding clients who may have issues; this time, we experienced it ourselves. It was personal for me—I had to face clients, serious players, but luckily, it all ended well. We had a backup plan, we were prepared, and thankfully, we had enough resources." C) The cybersecurity talent gap is a growing issue. The sector is already stretched thin, and NIS2 regulations will add more pressure. While big corporations have the budget, SMEs will need to prove they're cyber-safe to remain competitive. The day's quote came from Bart Lageweg : "It's not sexy to say you're not investing in cybersecurity. It won't bring you business!" Special thanks to Danny Frietman for his stellar moderation and Daniël Luthra for taking the reins moving forward. Thank you, Vincent van Sas of Dutch IT Channel and Dutch IT Leaders, for the invite!

The Recent Hack on Dutch Police Politie Nederland : A Stark Reminder to Prioritize Cybersecurity The cyberattack accessed work-related contact details of all Dutch police officers, including nearly 63,000 staff members. In light of the recent cyberattack on the Dutch police force, it's evident that no organization is immune to the threats lurking in the digital landscape. This breach compromised sensitive data and highlighted systemic vulnerabilities that could have far-reaching consequences. Cybersecurity isn't just an IT issue—it's a critical component of organizational resilience and national security. As technology advances, so do cybercriminals' tactics. Insiber.com and its partners suggest companies proactively adapt by investing in robust security measures, continuous staff training, and comprehensive incident response plans. Additionally, the role of cyber insurance has become increasingly important. While preventative measures are essential, cyber insurance provides a safety net that helps organizations recover more swiftly from breaches. It offers financial protection and access to expert resources to manage the aftermath of an attack, ensuring business continuity and minimizing losses. Leading insurance provider Hiscox recently upgraded its SME cyber policies, making them even more attractive for those who take care of their cyber resilience. Let this incident serve as a wake-up call. Both public and private sectors must take cybersecurity seriously. Protecting our digital assets is not optional; it's essential for maintaining trust, integrity, and the seamless operation of our societies. More information here https://lnkd.in/enTQHvs9

Just finished re-reading Kip Boyle's "Fire Doesn't Innovate" - a cybersecurity classic that still holds up in today's rapidly evolving digital landscape. Boyle's analogy of comparing cybersecurity to historical city fires is both clever and eye-opening. He reminds us that, like the devastating fires in Chicago and Seattle in the late 1800s, our digital infrastructure can be equally vulnerable if we don't proactively address inherent risks. Despite the fast-paced nature of cybersecurity, the core principles Boyle outlines remain relevant: • Understanding the evolving threat landscape • Implementing robust risk management strategies • Fostering a security-conscious culture The book offers invaluable insights for managers navigating the complex world of cyber threats, and at Insiber.com, we recommend reading it. However, given the rapid advancements in technology and emerging cyber risks, I can't help but wonder: Is an updated edition of "Fire Doesn't Innovate" in the works, Mr. Boyle? The cybersecurity community would undoubtedly benefit from your latest perspectives! If an update becomes available, Kip will certainly add the rise of AI and the importance of cyber insurance in cyber resilience. "The Cyber Risk Management Podcast" by Kip Boyle and Jake Bernstein, CISSP, CIPP/US is very much worth following, which has bi-weekly updates on cyber threats. Hiscox has just rolled out a major upgrade to its flagship cyber insurance offering, CyberClear, and it’s poised to shake up the landscape for businesses navigating today’s digital minefield. According to Edwin Oud, these changes are all about flexibility, accessibility, and better protection. First off, Hiscox has widened its acceptance criteria and expanded coverage options, making the policy more appealing to businesses of all sizes. One of the standout features? Lower premiums across the board, with customizable add-ons for those who need specific protections. And if you’re one of those forward-thinking companies already investing in advanced security measures like EDR, MDR, or XDR, you could be looking at a 15% discount on your annual premium. Faster payouts for businesses with revenue under €25 million also add a layer of reassurance. With a retention time for business disruption claims cut down from twelve hours to just eight, companies can get back on their feet more quickly after an incident. And for companies doing business across borders—particularly with the U.S. and Canada—the policy has been tweaked to allow up to 25% of revenue from these regions, a significant leap from the previous 10%. Hiscox’s revamped CyberClear is a tailored response to the evolving challenges businesses face in the cyber age. With more competitive pricing, expanded options, and incentives for stronger digital defenses, it’s a robust package for navigating today’s online risks.
